Petra Kvitova avoided another upset loss against Luksika Kumkhum, easing through the Australian Open first round on Monday.
The Czech sixth seed was a shock loser to Kumkhum at the year's first grand slam in 2014, but had no such troubles this time around in a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion, showed her class against the Thai qualifier, who was no match for the left-hander. Such was her dominance, Kvitova lost just 11 points on serve during the 70-minute clash on Rod Laver Arena.
She took until the eighth game to break in the first set, but the second was far more straightforward. Kvitova avoided spending too much time in the Melbourne heat, completing her win when Kumkhum served an eighth double fault.
