The timings and throws were not very impressive but Indian athletes picked three gold in the G. Kosanov Memorial international meet at Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Saturday.
Mohammed Afsal took the men’s 800m gold in 1:49.12s while discus throwers Gagandeep Singh (men, 52.39m) and Navjeet Kaur (women, 54.80m) also won their events on the opening day of the two-day meet.

In fact, Gagandeep and Navjeet had better throws in the Federation Cup in Patiala in March.
India also won the men’s discus silver through S. Mithravarun (49.54m) while Jyothi (58.69m) and Anita (55.38) took silver and bronze in women’s hammer throw.

Incidentally, Mithravarun had won the Federation Cup silver with 53.29m and his performance on Saturday gave an indication of the standard of the competition in some of the events here.
