Edited excerpts:
Expectations post Rio
Definitely the responsibilities are much more and I have to achieve a lot more. That will be always there. I have to keep playing my best. That will be my aim. After the Olympics, anybody will think that they have to come back strong. So definitely that was in my mind. I played the Superseries and I used to always think that I have to win one Superseries. At the end of the year, everything went well.
Plans for 2017
For now, it is one step at a time. Now it will be the PBL (Premier Badminton League). Later on, we have the Syed Modi India Grand Prix and some of the Superseries. Finally, the All England Championship and the World Championships. But, it will be just step by step for now.
Motivating factor
Winning a tournament is really a great feeling. With the same confidence, the belief that we can do much better, we go back and train better.
Learning from the Rio Games’ loss
I found out my mistakes (after the Rio Olympic Games loss). Beating her (Carolina Marin in the Dubai Superseries finals) was important as it was an important match because only two progressed to the semifinal and Sun Yu had made it. So the match against Carolina was very crucial for me. I had to win that match and then only I would qualify.
On Gopichand opening an academy outside Hyderabad
Now, he is thinking of opening in other cities as well. People keep asking him. Hopefully for the good it will happen.
On PBL
This time we will do much better. Last time also it went on very well. (Talking about the format) From the start we have to be very alert because we do not have that much time to think about (11-points format). It is a team event. Different atmosphere as players from different countries come and play together.
Playing in Chennai
The team owners are discussing about it. Hopefully, we will play and it will be good for the fans. The Chennai Smashers team will assemble in Hyderabad around December 28th.
