"The target is to improve my world ranking (currently World No. 8) and scale the summit," says P. V. Sindhu.

P. V. Sindhu is confident ahead of her first major event – the Denmark Open starting from October 18 – after winning the silver medal in 2016 Rio Olympics.

Her historical achievement in Brazil fetched many felicitations and accolades. "Enjoying every moment and every felicitation function. The warmth and affection are so special."

But she wants to move on from the Olympics for there are Super Series titles to be won. "This is a new chapter in my career. The Olympics are over. Now, I have to focus on the circuit and start winning some of the titles," the 21-year-old tells Sportstar before leaving for Denmark.

Sindhu, who reached the Denmark Open final in the previous edition, wants to win it this time. "You have to keep improving all the time. I will give my best and try to win this important title."

"The target is to improve my world ranking (currently World No. 8) and scale the summit," she says, "It is important for me to win a couple of Super Series titles and also qualify for the year-ending BWF Super Series finals."

The silver medal has increased her confidence. "But you need to put your best foot forward. I am aware of the fact that opponents will come better prepared" says Sindhu.

She has been training and the focus was on improving the defence.

"At this level, it is not going to be easy from the first round itself. I cannot afford to take anything easy and I can't say this player or that particular opponent will be a bigger challenge."
