Indian shuttlers Sourabh Varma, Rahul Yadav and Rituparna Das advanced to the second round of the Belgian International Challenge after notching up straight-game wins, here today.
Women’s singles player Rituparna defeated Germany’s Fabienne Deprez 21-18 22-20 in the opening round, while Sourabh spanked England’s Luke Pearce 21-4 21-8 and Rahul Yadav Chittaboina beat Sweden’s Mikael Westerback 21-17 21-19 in men’s singles.
Sourabh will face France’s Lucas Claerbout, Rituparna will meet Malaysia’s Soniia Su Ya Cheah and Rahul will take on England’s Sam Parsons.
However, Anand Pawar, seeded 7th, suffered a 15-20 20-22 loss against Netherlands’ Erik Meijs 21-15 22-20, while in women’s singles, Rasika Raje lost to Denmark’s Amalie Hertz Hansen 17-21 18-21.
In men’s doubles, Arjun MR and Ramchandran Shlok defeated Belgium’s Guillaume Bonnet and Alexandre Lallemand 21-7 21-5, while Vighnesh Devlekar and Rohan Kapoor beat France’s Vanmael Heriau and Florent Riancho 21-14 21-19 to reach the second round here.
Netherlands pair of Alida Chen and Myke Halkema defeated Indian duo of Kuhoo Garg and Karishma Wadkar 21-18 21-17 in the opening round of women’s doubles. Another pair of Sanjana Santosh and Arathi Sara Sunil also lost 13-21 13-21 to English combo of Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith.
In mixed doubles, Vighnesh Devlekar and Kuhoo Garg, who had got a bye in the first round, lost 13-21 17-21 to Denmark’s Alexander Bond and Ditte Soby Hansen.
