Women's National boxing championships: Simranjit, Sonia enter quarters

World championship bronze-medallist Simranjit Kaur (Punjab) defeated Sandhya (HP) to advance to the quarterfinals in the 64kg class at the 3rd Elite Women's National boxing championship at the Inspire Institute of Sports in Bellary on Wednesday.

World Championships medallists Sonia Lather and Simranjit Kaur beat Saloni Singh and Sandhya with consummate ease to storm into their weight category quarterfinals of the third women’s National boxing championships here on Wednesday. Both of them posted identical 5-0 verdicts in the 57kg and 64kg respectively.

It also turned out to be a fruitful day in office for Commonwealth Games bronze medal winners Pinki Jangra and Manisha Moun.

Pinki defeated Pratibha in the 51kg class when the referee stopped the contest in the third round, while Nikhat Zareen showed some excellent mix of defensive and attacking prowess against Likhitha Battini to win 5-0.

Manisha accounted for Riya Tokas in the 64kg category.
