UPDATES: Ranji Trophy - Round 7; Day 4

Catch all the updates from the fourth and final day's play of the seventh round of the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 from all centres across the country. The final list of teams to have qualified for the knockout stages are Vidarbha, Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka and Delhi.

Welcome to the LIVE updates from the fourth and final day's play of the seventh round of the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 from all centres across the country.

Group A

Hyderabad vs Delhi

Our correspondent V.V. Subramanyam adds:

3.20 pm: Delhi has to be content with three points for taking the first innings lead as Hyderabad, forced to follow on, finished at 442/8 in the second innings.

Left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra (5/116), Rohit Rayudu (103) and B. Sandeep (93) share the honours on the final day.

3.15 pm: The captains shake hands in Hyderabad . There is no possibility of a result and the match is drawn with Delhi taking first innings lead.

2.30 pm: Left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra's five-wicket haul seems to have come a bit too late as Hyderabad is 429/8 at tea.

Hyderabad leads by 219 runs with two wickets in hand and with only one more session the match is clearly heading for a draw now.

2.12 pm: Vikas Mishra torments Hyderabad again. After taking four wickets in the first innings, he adds another five in the second. He sends Mehdi Hasan for 12 and Hyderabad is 417/8, a lead of 207 runs.

1.50 pm: It is the part time bowler Dhruv Shorey of Delhi to strike twice to send back T. Ravi Teja and Akash Bhandari in quick succession and leave Hyderabad at 395 for 7, 185 runs ahead after being forced to follow on.

1.35 pm: It is the turn of the other left arm spinner Manan Sharma of Delhi to strike as he traps T Ravi Teja lbw on backfoot shuffle to leave Hyderabad at 386/6, 176 runs ahead.

1.09 pm: Delhi left arm spinner Vikas Mishra strikes for the third time after lunch to induce an irresponsible lofted shot by the well set B. Sandeep of Hyderabad when on 93 to revive hopes of an outright win for his team.

1:04 pm: Vikas Mishra picks up a 4-for as Hyderabad loses its fifth wicket. 374/5.

12:42 pm: Hyderabad suffered two quick blows soon after the lunch break with left arm spinner Vikas Mishra removing Rohit Rayudu for 103 and captain K. Sumanth (0) in the same over to reduce the home team to 357 for 4 in 121 overs on the final day after being forced to follow on by Delhi. Hyderabad is now 147 runs ahead with six wickets.

11.45 am: A century for Rohit Rayudu. He is on 101 off 233 balls with 12 fours and one six. Hyderabad going strong on the final day at 343/2 at lunch.

It is Rohit Rayudu's maiden Ranji century (101) and his unbroken 130- run stand for the third wicket with southpaw B. Sandeep who struck a well-compiled 73 has helped Hyderabad so far.

11.05 am: B. Sandeep gets to a 50. He has taken 125 balls and has hit five fours and one six. Hyderabad 295/2. A lead of 85 runs. This has been an improved batting performance from the host and it is hanging on and frustrating Delhi and taking this match towards a stalemate.

10.15 am: Hyderabad moves to 267/2 in 98 overs, a lead of 57 runs.

9.30 am: Hyderabad begins the fourth day at 233/2, and has started well with Rohit Rayudu and B. Sandeep making sure there is no hiccup early. Hyderabad moves to 259/2 in 91 overs. 

 

Karnataka vs Railways

3.47 pm: Done and dusted! Shreyas Gopal finishes things off. He traps Karan Thakur infront to help Karnataka beat Railways by 209 runs . Railways folds for 167. K. Gowtham the star with figures of 7/72 while Shreyas Gopal chips in with 2/59.

3.45 pm: Shreyas Gopal comes to the party as he sends back Vidyadhar Kamath for 20. He is caught by Karun Nair. Railways 167/9. Karnataka is one wicket away from a win now.

3:21 pm: Gowtham gets his seventh! Railways 146/8. He is on fire. His figures reads 25-7-68-7. Railways 162/8 and it needs 215 more runs to win.

3:01 pm Gowtham takes his sixth wicket as Mahesh Rawat is trapped in front for 22. Railways 136/7. Gowtham's figures reads 21.3-5-66-6.

2.50 pm: Gowtham is on fire. He takes his fifth wicket as Manish Rao is cleaned up for 25. Railways 131/6. Gowtham's figures reads 20.2-5-62-5.

1.58 pm: Gowtham strikes again. He picks up his fourth wicket (15.5-5-34-4). P.S. Singh is the man dismissed for 36, trapped infront by Gowtham. Railways 99/5.

1.30 pm: Railways lose its fourth wicket. Arindam Ghosh is out before he could open his account. LBW to Gowtham. Railways 83/4, it needs 294 more runs to win. Karnataka needs six wickets and that seems realistic!

1.22 pm: Nitin Bhille is out LBW to A. Mithun for 15 (31). Railways 82/3.

1:02 pm: Railways is on 61 for 2, K. Gowtham cleaning up Devdhar. Railways needs another 316 runs to win.

11.50 am: Lunch time in Delhi. Railways has made a slow start. 22/1 in 19 overs.

11.28 am: Karnataka draws first blood. Opener Shivkant Shukla has his stumps rearranged by K. Gowtham for 13. Railways 16/1, needing 357 more to win.

10.15 am: There is the declaration. Karnataka has declared its second innings on 275/4, handing Railways a target of 377 runs. Mayank Agarwal has scored 134 (178 balls, 13 fours and three sixes).

9.30 am: Karnataka begins the final day with a healthy lead of 309. Mayank Agarwal, who started on 104, has moved to 131 but Nischal could only add four runs to his overnight score of 41 to be dismissed for 45. Karun Nair has joined Mayank and Karnataka is 246/2 in 65 overs, with an overall lead of 348 runs.

 

Group B

Jharkhand vs Gujarat

11.15 am: It is all over at Ranchi. The 15 runs is no challenge for the Gujarat openers as they finish off the proceedings in just 10 balls. P. Panchal hit three boundaries as Gujarat takes seven points from this outing. R. Bhatt was outstanding with the bat with 145 in the first innings while Gaja (3/49) and Kamlesh Thakor (3/43) were the pick of the bowlers. The home team lost the plot in the second innings, to be bowled out for a paltry 183 and it proved no challenge for the defending champion in the end.

10.58 am: Jharkhand has been bowled out for 183. Gujarat needs 15 runs to win this match. That's an easy task. H.P. Patel returns with impressive figures of 6-1-9-4. C.T Gaja gives Patel support with 3/37.

10.48 am: Jharkhand loses its eighth wicket Gujarat sniffs a win in the first session itself. Anand Singh leaves his crease and Parthiv Patel is quick to whip the bails off and it is 171/8. A lead of two runs. Never, ever going to be enough.

10.45 am: Shahbaz Nadeem is dismissed for 6, bowled by Patel. Jharkhand 168/7.

10.20 am: Virat Singh walks back to the hut after being caught by M. Juneja off H. Patel. Jharkhand 161/6, trailing Gujarat by 8 runs. The defending champion is well set for a fine victory.

9.30 am: Not the kind of start Jharkhand would have wanted. Resuming from 106/2, it has lost Utkarsh Singh for nine and Ishank Jaggi for no score. Virat Singh and Ishan Kishan are in the middle with Jharkhand moving to 143/4, a deficit of 26 runs more.

 

Rajasthan vs Saurashtra

4.39 pm: The match ends in a draw ! Saurashtra takes the first innings lead and takes three points. Rajasthan 394/7. Three centurions in A.V. Gautam (100), C. Bist (109) and Bishnoi (103*).

4.36 pm: R.K. Bishnoi hits a century. 103 runs off 105 balls with nine fours and five sixes. Rajasthan 394/7, leading Saurashtra by 135 runs.

3.50 pm: Jadeja takes five! He sends Robin Bist back for 2. Bist caught by Snell Patel and Rajasthan is 341/7. Jadeja now has figures of 32.4-3-141-5.

3:23 pm: D.A. Jadeja gets his fourth (30.0-3-127-4), Team Rajasthan is 325/6.

2.55 pm: Tea time and Rajasthan is on 322/5 in 84 overs.

2.53 pm: Chirag Jani clean bowls D. Yagnik for 16 (36). Rajasthan loses half its side for 318 on the board.

2.43 pm: R.K. Bishnoi scores a quickfire 50, 55 off just 54 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Rajasthan is 314/4, leading Saurashtra by 55 runs.

2.15 pm: Ashok Menaria is the next man dismissed. He is caught and bowled by Sheldon Jackson for 20 and Rajasthan is 266/4.

1.48 pm: Bist departs for 109. He is bowled by Jadeja. 238/3.

1.30 pm: Bist gets a century. He has played 163 balls with 13 fours and one six. Rajasthan 210/2.

1.19 pm: Lomror goes second ball for no score. He is caught by Chirag Jani off Jadeja. Rajasthan 25/2.

1.15 pm: The joy doesn't last long for Gautam. He is out the next ball LBW to D. Jadeja for 100. Rajasthan 205/1.

1.12 pm: Gautam gets to a century, off 172 balls. His knock includes 17 fours and one six. Rajasthan 205/0.

1.05 pm: This has been a terrific opening partnership for Rajasthan. Gautam and Bist have added 202 runs in 53 overs, and the deficit is just 57 now. Rajasthan fighting it out for a draw, in style.

11.40 am: Lunch break. Rajasthan 142/0 in 39 overs.

11.05 am: C.D. Bist hits a 50. Rajasthan 105/0. A. Gautam too reaches his 50. He has taken 101 balls and the openers are in good touch for Rajasthan.

10.26 am: Rajasthan openers have put on an unbeaten 61-run stand and the deficit is now 198 runs.

9.30 am: Rajasthan has started on a cautious note. Resuming from 13/0, it has moved to 26/0, adding 13 more runs in eight overs bowled in the morning. Saurashtra will be sniffing to skittle its opponents out soon, with a healthy lead of 233 runs to its advantage.

 

Haryana vs Kerala

12.15 pm: Kerala has marched into the quarterfinals. Haryana is bowled out for 173 in its second innings, eight runs short of Kerala's first innings total. A. Hooda is out for 5, caught by Sanju Samson off M. Nidheesh. What a moment for Kerala cricket. Kerala takes seven points from this innings and eight runs win.

11.55 am: K.B. Arun Karthik strikes for Kerala. He bowls A.K. Chahal for 12, off 29 balls. Haryana 153/9, trailing Kerala by 28 runs and staring at an innings defeat.

This will mostly be Kerala's first entry into the quarterfinals. It has been participating in the Ranji Trophy since 1953. It has gone into the pre-quarterfinal stage twice now.

11.15 am: Haryana losing the plot in the first session on the final day. H. Patel is out for one run and it has slumped to 126/8. Kerala leads by 55 and the Kerala bowlers would hope that it is only a matter of time before they take the remaining two wickets and coast to an innings victory.

11.07 am: Haryana loses its seventh wicket for 119 onboard. A. Mishra is out for 40.

10.28 am: Haryana is now 106/5, with Rajat Paliwal on 30 and A.R. Mishra on 31. With Kerala having a 75 run lead, it would hope to skittle out its opponents soon and press for a good win.

9.30 am: Haryana has moved to 90/5 in 50 overs, with a deficit of 90 more runs.

 

Group C

Baroda vs Tamil Nadu

Our correspondent Dipak Ragav adds:

2.41 pm: Its all over at Moti Baug. Baba Aparajith is the last man to depart for 60 as Swapnil Singh takes his fourth wicket and Baroda wins by 102 runs . Tamil Nadu is bowled out for 130. Swapnil Singh has figures of 19.1-8-21-4 while L. Meriwala returns with figures of 16-7-22-4. Baroda takes six points while TN takes zero.

2.30 pm: Swapnil Singh picks up two wickets in three balls as he sends back Yo Mahesh for 25 and R. Sai Kishore for 0 to leave Tamil Nadu on 129/9. It has been a horrid day for TN.

2.10 pm: Baba Aparajith gets to a 50 and instills hope in the Tamil Nadu camp. He has taken 159 balls for his 50, with 6 fours. TN 113/7, 120 more runs to win.

1.19 pm: It gets worse for Tamil Nadu. Meriwala gets J. Kousik for no score and TN slides to 80/7. Meriwala has been excellent with the ball. His figures now reads 13.4-7-18-4. Top stuff from Baroda this! TN needs 153 to win, Baroda needs 3 wickets!

1.10 pm: Washington Sundar departs for 18, off 79 balls. He is caught by Deepak Hooda off Swapnil Singh. Tamil Nadu loses its sixth wicket for 79. It needs 154 more runs to win.

12:48 pm: Tamil Nadu is on 74 for five, it needs another 159 runs to win.

11.45 am: Tamil Nadu takes lunch at 65/5. Aparajith and Washington Sundar have ensured no further wicket falls for TN.

Aparajith has been able to find a few boundaries and would need to score another ton to see TN through. Baroda's challenge starts now as the balls gets old and soft.

10.45 am: It is drinks time here at the Moti Baug and much needed break for Tamil Nadu. It was always going to be a challenge. The final day’s play in Ranji Trophy matches start 15 minutes early. The two-over old new ball and the early morning winter conditions were always going to pose a challenge and Baroda have made full use of the conditions. The TN batsmen haven't helped themselves fishing nervously outside off-stump.

Lukman Meriwala accounted for Abhinav, Jagadeesan and Indrajith. Atit Sheth got Kaushik Gandhi driving at a wide one and the batsman had to fetch it and scooped it to cover. Mohammed received a very good first ball, a short one directed at his body and couldn't get his gloves out of the way.

The pitch should ease out soon, but TN need to hang in there till then.

10.20 am: It only gets worse for Tamil Nadu with Kaushik Gandhi (12) and M. Mohammed (0) back in the hut. Aparajith and Washington Sundar have a mammoth task on hand. 30/5, needing 203 to win.

9.30 am: A horrid fourth day morning for Tamil Nadu. Needing 231 to win and resuming on 2/0, Tamil Nadu has lost N. Jagadeesan for 8, Abhinav Mukund for 1 and Baba Indrajith for 0 to leave it tottering at 17/3 in 11 overs. Kaushik Gandhi (7) and Baba Aparajith (0) have a job on hand. Baroda would be mightily pleased with the bowling effort. 

 

Madhya Pradesh vs Odisha

3.00 pm: Madhya Pradesh wins by seven wickets! 

2.00 pm: Tea time and MP is 52/3 in 20 overs. It needs 58 more runs to win in the final session of play. Devendra Bundela on 23 and Harpeet Singh on 5 will resume after the break.

1.40 pm: Shubam Sharma is the next man to go. He is bowled by Deepak Behera and MP is 45/3.

1.20 pm: Madhya Pradesh loses its second wicket. Aryaman Vikram Birla is run out for six. MP 30/2. It needs 80 more runs to beat Odisha.

12:30 pm: Madhya Pradesh loses its first wicket, Rajat Patidar departs for 8 (5).

12.15 pm: Ankit Sharma bowls Suryakant Pradhan for 16 and Odisha is allout for 350. Madhya Pradesh needs 110 to win the match.

12.01 pm: Mihir Hirwani takes five wickets. He traps Alok Sahoo infront for 3 and Odisha slips to 342/9. Hirwani now has figures of 5/96.

11.55 am: Deepak Behra is out for 15 and Mihir Hirwani takes four wickets. Odisha 333/8. A lead of 92. Hirwani's figures reads 34.4-6-94-4.

11.15 am: It is lunch time. Odisha gets into the break at 332/7, a lead of just 91 runs.

10.55 am: Senapati walks back to the pavilion after scoring 125 off 259 balls. He is caught by Devendra Bundela off Ankit Sharma. Odisha 325/7. A lead of 84 runs.

10.15 am: A century for Senapati. He now on 103 off 236 balls and Odisha on 292/5.

9.30 am: From 237/4, Odisha has moved to 282/5 in 117 overs. Subhransu Senapati is six short of a century while Natraj Behera is on 27. Odisha has a lead of 41 runs now. 

 

Group D

Punjab vs Services

4.55 pm: The match is drawn ! Punjab started on a blazing note but five wickets pegged back its chances and the teams decided to call it off. Punjab takes three points for taking the first innings lead and Services has to be content with one point.

4.52 pm: Anmolpreet is the next to go and he is out for 19 off 7 balls. Punjab 94/5 in 6.1 overs and it needs 35 more to win.

4.50 pm: Punjab loses two more in quick succession. Manpreet Singh for six and Gurkeerat Mann is out first ball and it is 93/4.

4.43 pm: Abhishek Gupta is dismissed for 26 off 13 balls and Punjab is 92/2 in 5.2 overs. It needs 37 more runs to win.

4.40 pm: Anmolpreet Singh comes in and it only gets worse for Services. He has smashed 17 in just 4 balls with two sixes and one four. At the end of 5 overs, Punjab 86/1.

4.32 pm: Shubman Gill is out for 32 (16). A run out would have been the only way to stop this assault. Punjab 64/1 in 4.2 overs.

4.25 pm: Punjab 58/0 in 4 overs. 71 runs required in 16 overs. Gill 29 (14) and Abhishek 25 (11) in the middle. Looks like Punjab is making a mincemeat of the target!

4.15 pm: As expected, the Punjab openers are going berserk. Abhishek Gupta is on 24 from just 9 balls with 4 fours and 1 six while Shubman Gill is on 15 off 8 balls with 1 four and 1 six. Punjab has reached 42/0 in 2.5 overs, scoring 14.82 runs an over!

3.50 pm: Services is bowled out for 458, a lead of 128. With 20 overs remaining and a target of 129, will Punjab fancy its chances?

2.40 pm: At tea, Services is 371/8, leading Punjab by just 41 runs.

2.01 pm: Nitin Tanwar is the next man to get back to the hut. Kaul takes the wicket. Services 353/7.

1.57 pm: Services loses its 6th wicket. Vikas Hathwala is out for 41. 349/6, leads Punjab by 19 runs.

1.16 pm: Ravi Chauhan is bowled by Jiwanjot Singh for 112. Services 313/5.

12:49 pm: Ravi Chauhan gets to his century in 151 balls, Services is 289/4.

12:43 pm: Services is on 279/4, it trails Punjab by 51 Runs, Ravi Chauhan 96(144) and Vikas Hathwala 12(17) are holding fort.

11.50 am: Lunch break at Amritsar. Services 272/4. Ravi Chauhan is on 95. Services in the deficit of 58 runs and Punjab would hope for an improved performance with the ball in the second session.

11.35 am: Services loses its 4th wicket. The centurion is runout by Siddharth Kaul. He is celebrating an Indian call up by helping his team take a prized wicket of a well-set batsman. Galot is out for 124 off 163 balls. Services 255/4, trailing Punjab by 75 runs.

11.00 am: Rahul Singh Galot gets to a century. He has scored 103 off 138 balls with 15 fours and one six. Services 219/3.

10.25 am: Services have had a good first session so far, moving to 189/3 in 50 overs. It still trails by 141 runs.

9.30 am: Resuming on 118/3, Services has moved to 176/3 with Ravi Chauhan on 55 and Rahul Singh on 76. 153 in the deficit, Services would hope to see through the day and hang on to a draw.

 

Bengal  vs Goa

3.55 pm: The captains shake hands. Match drawn , Bengal takes first innings lead! The teams call it off with Goa on 86/2 in 26 overs. Bengal gets three points for taking the first innings lead while Goa has to be content with one point.

3:18 pm: Goa is  50/2 in 16 overs.

2.20 pm: Goa loses its second wicket for 8 runs on the board. Prathamesh Gawas is out for 4 and Ashoke Dinda is back amidst the wickets. 8/2.

2.07 pm: Goa loses its first wickt. Swapnil Asnodkar is the man out for no score. He is caught by A.R. Easwaran off Ashoke Dinda. Goa 3/1.

1.42 pm: And there is the declaration . Bengal skipper Manoj Tiwary calls his batsmen in. The target for Goa is 403 and we have about 40 overs to be bowled. Anustup is unbeaten on 108 and Writtick is unbeaten on 102 as Bengal declares on 334/5 in 80.5 overs.

1.36 pm: Writtick Chatterjee gets to his century, ff 133 balls. Bengal 334/5.

1.24 pm: Anustup Majumdar scores a ton. 103 runs off 173 balls with 12 fours. Bengal 317/5. Leads Goa by 386 runs. Do we see a declaration anytime?

12:38 Bengal is on 236 for five , Writtick Chatterjee gets to his 50 in 87 balls.

11.15 am: Bengal takes lunch at 202/5, a massive lead of 271. Writtick Chatterjee on 29 and Anustup Majumdar on 52 will resume after the break.

10.20 am: Bengal has moved to 150-run mark without losing anymore wickets. A lead of 219 over Goa.

9.30 am: Bengal, resuming on 108/3, has moved to 137/5 with both the overnight batsmen, Sreevats Goswami and A.R. Easwaran back in the hut. With a lead of 206, Bengal sits pretty.

 

Vidarbha vs Himachal

5.00 pm: Its all over at Nagpur. Vidarbha takes the first innings lead. Vidarbha takes three points for taking the lead.

3.40 pm: The declaration from Himachal comes at 323/8, leading it leads Vidarbha by 220 runs.

3.38 pm: It becomes 323/8 as P. Jaswal is out for 37 off 18 balls. Sarvate takes his sixth wicket. That was a quick entertaining innings. Jaswal has scored at a strike rate of 205. 37 off 18 balls with one four and five sixes. Jaswal misses and Sarvate hits the timber. His figures are 38.1-14-75-6.

3.36 pm: N.R. Gangta helps himself to a 100. He is on 101 off 259 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Himachal is 323/7, leading by 220 runs.

3:13 pm A A Sarvate picks a five-for, Himachal is 275/7.

3:09 pm: Himachal is 273/6, it leads Vidarbha by 170 Runs.

2.30 pm: A. Sarvate picks up four wickets and R. Dhawan is out for 53 off 87 balls. Himachal 261/6. Sarvate's figures reads 32.1-13-44-4. And, its tea time.

2.10 pm: R. Dhawan gets to a 50, in 76 balls. Himachal 257/5, a lead of 154.

12:39 pm: Himachal is 174 for five,  NR Gangta reaches his fifty.

11.40 am: Himachal is 5 down. A.R. Kumar is caught by Ramaswamy off Sarvate for 6. 154/5.

11.25 am: Verma is caught infront by A. Sarvate and he has to walk back after making 59 off 92 balls. Himachal 142/4. A lead of 39.

10.25 am: N.R. Gangta and S.L. Verma have hung on to take Himachal to 117/3, a lead of 14.

9.30 am: Himachal, resuming on 70/3, is now 103/3 with a lead of one run over Vidarbha.
