A freak injury halted Prithvi Shaw's international career after a great start but the talented batsman will return to action next week.

Shaw, on Saturday, was named in Mumbai's squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee picked Shaw in the squad after the young gun started training a few days ago. He started his international career with a Test century against the West Indies at Rajkot, but sustained an ankle injury during a practice game in Australia in November prior to the Test series. That forced him to miss the entire series.

Shaw would be keen on making a mark on his return, so also the Ajinkya Rahane-led side. After winning the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Mumbai failed to reach the knockouts of Ranji Trophy.

In the 15-member squad, there are batting regulars — Shreyas Iyer, Siddhesh Lad, Surya Kumar Yadav and experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Aditya Tare.

The bowling attack will be led by former India pacer Dhawal Kulkarni.

The tournament is scheduled to be played in Indore from February 21-28.

Mumbai squad: Ajinkya Rahane (Capt), Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Dhawal Kulkarni, Siddhesh Lad, Aditya Tare, Surya Kumar Yadav, Akash Parkar, Eknath Kerkar, Dhurmil Matkar, Shams Mulani, Shubham Ranjane, Tushar Deshpande and Royston Dias.
