DC vs SRH Highlights: SRH 197/6 (20), DC 188/6 (20): Hyderabad beats Delhi by 9 runs

Top bowling effort from Hyderabad as they denied Delhi a win in their home ground as the David Warner-led side choked despite cruising at one stage. Mayank Markande picked two wickets as the likes of Hosein, Natarajan, and Abhishek Sharma helped the Orange army pocket a win. It was a match that Delhi should ideally have won with Marsh and Salt hitting half-centuries. But, their dismissal helped Sunrisers break their losing streak.

Top bowling from Natarajan as the seamer gets his line and length right, not giving the Delhi batsmen any opportunity to free their arms. The Yorkers are bang on target as Delhi needs 26 runs in 6 balls.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back into the attack and the Axar Patel connected one with an excellent pull as the ball sailed over the deep square leg for a maximum. Bhuvi corrected his line and created an opportunity but the ball just slipped away Umran Malik’s diving effort. Delhi needs 35 runs in 12 balls.

Sarfaraz Khan executes a brilliant ramp shot as the ball travels over the short third man but Natarajan gets his man to leave Delhi in a lot of trouble. A perfect yorker and Sarfaraz misses it only to see his off-pole get knocked down.

Sunrisers keeping the pressure on Delhi as Markande gets Priyam Garg and the leg-spinner bowled wide with Garg skipping down the track only to drag it onto the stumps. The onus is now on Axar Patel as Delhi needs 57 in 24 balls.

Priyam Garg takes the risk and drills Abhishek for a boundary to the long-off region and then settles for singles with Sarfaraz yet to open his arms. Delhi needs 60 runs from 30 balls.

Three wickets in three overs and Delhi has imploded in the chase against the spin of Hyderabad. The pressure is firmly on the home side and they are yet in another familiar situation. Manish Pandey will be kicking himself as his dismissal handed Hyderabad the momentum. Marsh falls for a brilliant 63 off 39 balls. Sarfaraz Khan, the Impact Player joins Priyam Garg.

Abhishek strikes and he foxes Manish Pandey with Klassen whipping off the bails. Poor judgement from the batsman as he skips down the track only to get stumped and the pressure is back on Delhi. Priyam Garg is the new man in and Marsh holds the key in the run chase.

Markande takes a brilliant low return catch to pack off Salt, but the batsman has played his part with a brilliant 35-ball 59 as Manish Pandey joins Marsh. The required rate is not an issue as Delhi has it covered but will ideally look to not implode against spin.

Marsh hits a 28-ball century and thhis has been brilliant from the Australian. A four-wicket haul followed by a half-century has put Delhi in the driver’s seat. The partnership with Salt has been superb and Delhi now needs 87 in 54 balls.

Phul Salt hits a brilliant half-century and brings the 100-run partnership along with Marsh. Harry Brook, meanwhile, almost pulled off a blinder near the ropes and saved a certain six. A 29-ball fifty for Salt, his first in the IPL and Delhi bossing the run chase.

Right then Abhishek Sharma comes into the attack but Marsh is having a wonderful evening as he stays deep in his crease and finds the long-on boundary before unleashing a brilliant pull over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum. Delhi needs 101 runs from 66 balls.

Mayank Markande into the attack and the spinner starts in a decent fashion. Marsh and Salt have forged a partnership and most importantly have kept the run-rate under control. Six singles and Markande has started well as it’s time for a breather with Delhi in control of the run chase.

Salt welcomes Umran Malik with a brilliant pull over the mid-wicket and then Marsh punishes the fast bowler for two sixes and the batsman is rides on the pace to dispatch the fast bowler for two consecutive sixes. Salt ends the over by drilling the bowler with a straight bat for a boundary as 22 runs come from Umran’s first over. Expensive over.

Akeal Hosein hasn’t been able to make an impact as Salt goes on his backfoot and punches the spinner through the mid-on to bring the fifty up for Delhi inside the PowerPlay. Excellent batting as Salt has dropped anchor and Marsh has motored on nicely.

Natarajan into the attack and the pacer almost had Marsh but the ball evaded a diving Markande at mid-wicket. The batsman then hammered Natarajan for a six as the ball just touched the boundary cushion at deep third man. Delhi up and running in the run chase.

A flat six and the ball landed straight in the DC dug out gets Mitch Marsh going and then Salt made room to drill Hosein through the off-side for a much-needed boundary. 12 runs from the over and Delhi is on track in a tall chase.

Salt gets going and uses his feet well as he dispatches Bhuvi for a boundary well over mid-off to get Delhi’s run chase going. Delhi Capitals needs 175 runs from 102 balls.

Akeal Hosein the left-arm spinner into the attack and Salt rocks back to punch the spinner through the covers for a boundary. Eight runs from his first over and Delhi will look to capitalise the PowerPlay.

Bhuvi strikes with the new ball as he removes Delhi skipper Warner for a duck as the batsman chops on a length delivery onto his stumps and Hyderabad is off to a brilliant start. Exactly the start that they needed as Bhuvi strikes inside PowerPlay. Salt drives an inswinger uppishly over mid-off for a boundary to get going. But it’s Hyderabad who has drawn first blood.

Rahul Tripathi has been replaced by T Natarajan as Impact Sub and it’s Warner on strike with Bhuvneshwar Kumar operating with the new ball with a slip in place.

Klaasen hits a brilliant half-century - his first, striking at 200 and played a gem of a knock to help Hyderabad post a challenging total on board. Abhishek Sharma was the architect with a fabulous knock and Klaasen along with Samad motored on despite Delhi making inroads. Will be back for the chase in a bit.

Hyderabad has posted the highest score of the season in Delhi with Akeal Hosein slashing Marsh for a boundary to the third man. Hosein spoils Marsh’s figures by smashing a six over the backward square leg for a maximum and that was a brilliant pick-up shot.

Klaasen smashes Nortje to the long-on fence and that was some hit as the ball travelled 96 metres into the stands but what a spell Marsh has bowled. This is a good batting wicket and Marsh will come in handy with the bat also.

The fifty-run partnership is up between Samad and Klassen and it has come in good time off 30 deliveries with Samad clubbing Marsh over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum. However, Marsh picked up his fourth wicket by removing Samad to leave Hyderabad six down.

Axar Patel hurries the batsmen but in the process bowls a couple of wides and then creates an opportunity to dismiss Klassen but the ball falls in no man’s land. Klassen however latched on to a couple of short deliveries as he tonked the bowler for two huge sixes to provide the much-needed impetus. The pull over the deep mid-wicket was something special.

Wonderful hands from Samad as he skips down the track and drills Nortje over the mid-off for a boundary and this was a brilliant shot. The bowler comes back well as Nortje keeps the line tight and doesn’t concedes a boundary. While Delhi aims to dry out boundaries, Samad will look to tee off at the death to give Hyderabad a winning total.

Klassen and Samad will have to bat through the innings as there isn’t much depth in Hyderabad’s batting from here. The run-rate is healthy hovering around 10 rpo and a good finish will give their bowlers a total to defend. Axar finishes his third over and he has been economical as usual.

Kuldeep back into the attack and it’s a perfect opportunity for the spinner to take wickets with Hyderabad five down. Samad and Klaasen are in the middle with the former smashing Kuldeep for a maximum and Hyderabad needs more of those.

Axar Patel with the breakthrough and he has ended Abhishek Sharma’s brilliant knock as the southpaw falls after scoring a superb 67 off 36 balls. The batsman went for a huge heave but couldn’t get the distance.

Heinrich Klaasen gets into the act and the 100 is up for Hyderabad as the batsman goes downtown hammering a boundary and then a maximum over long-off. Mukesh has been expensive and Delhi will look to keep the pressure on Hyderabad.

Nortje will be relieved as his drop catch didn’t cost Delhi much with Markram nailing a back-of-length delivery straight into the hands of Axar Patel at deep mid-wicket. Harry Brook’s struggle continues as he falls for a duck, smashing yet another back-of-length delivery into the hands of Axar, who was positioned at mid-wicket. A juggling catch but the all-rounder manages to take the catch to leave Hyderabad four down. Marsh with a double blow has given Delhi control.

There is no stopping Abhishek as he chipped one over the bowler’s head for a boundary and the mid-on fielder had absolutely no chance. On a good batting surface, Abhishek has a chance to stamp his authority.

Axar Patel into the attack and the left-arm spinner starts well and has put a clamp on the boundaries by giving just five runs. Important for Abhishek to keep the momentum going and not throw his wicket away.

Spin into the attack and it’s Kuldeep Yadav who starts well, not allowing Abhishek to free his arms. Aiden Markram is out in the middle and the skipper will look to play a big innings after being dropped by Anrich Nortje. Abhishek reaches his half-century in style by smoking Kuldeep for a maximum and that’s a brilliant fifty - his third IPL half-century and it has come in 25 balls with nine hits to the fence and one maximum. Top knock.

The 50 is up for Hyderabad and Abhishek is playing a wonderful knock, dealing in boundaries and this time the batsman nails a length delivery through the covers for a boundary. Having opened the batting the batsman is playing audaciously taking on the Delhi bowlers. Four boundaries in Ishant’s over and it’s Abhishek who has helped Hyderabad end the PowerPlay on a bright note. The batsman is seven short of his half-century.

Rahul Tripathi’s poor form continues as the batsman falls for a 6-ball 10 and wastes another opportunity to make an impression. Marsh with the breakthrough as Tripathi skipped down the track, trying to attack the bowler but failed to clear Manish Pandey who was stationed inside the ring. Poor shot from Tripathi as Hyderabad loses its second wicket inside PowerPlay.

This is brilliant batting from Abhishek as he trying to make the most of the PowerPlay. Mukesh Kumar into the attack and the opener dispatched the pacer through the covers for a boundary to keep the Hyderabad scorecard ticking. Tripathi comes up with an innovative shot as he scoops Mukesh for a maximum over the keeper’s head.

Ishant Sharma strikes and the veteran bounced out Mayank who went for a pull shot but only got a glove as Philip Salt took an easy catch behind the stumps. Rahul Tripathi is off the mark but it’s Abhishek who is doing the scoring as he smacks Ishant through over mid-wicket for a boundary.

Anrich Nortje thought he trapped Mayank Agarwal but that was a brilliant review from Mayank in consultation with Abhishek. The tracker showed the impact was outside the off stump and Mayank survives as the on-field decision was overturned. Both openers are off the mark and Hyderabad is off to a sedate start with Abhishek dealing in boundaries.

Abhishek gets off the mark with back-to-back boundaries as the southpaw takes the aerial route - the first one over the covers and then over point to get Sunrisers up and running. On a dry wicket, there isn’t much movement for Ishant and the batsman taking full advantage of the conditions.

Delhi Capitals in the huddle and out walk the two umpires. Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma will open the batting for Hyderabad and it will be Ishant Sharma who will start proceedings with the new ball. Here we go!

Sunrisers Hyderabad wins toss, opts to bat first against Delhi

SRH has handed the cap to West Indian Akeal Hosein as Washington Sundar isn’t available due to injury.

“We had some inclement weather earlier but the pitch was covered and unaffected by it, hopefully those clouds are blown away. 60m boundary on one side, 67m on the other side, 74m hit down the ground. All three games here have been won by the chasing team, but the highest score batting first is 172. We are seeing a surface that doesn’t have grass, we are seeing a surface that is low scoring. Absolutely no grass-cover at all. Make best use of the surface by batting first.”

“Whether the guys are performing or not, it’s my job to have a good honest open conversation. Nothing is different with Prithvi. When he arrived this year, he was with the NCA for a few weeks, working really hard on his fitness and was in good physical shape. His work ethic in the training and what he did in the nets suggested that this might be a big year for him... but that hasn’t worked out just yet. There’s still a long way to go. If things don’t work out with our current top-order, there’s no reason why he couldn’t be back in the team and if he gets back, hopefully he will be able to finish the tournament strongly.”
