Barcelona (left) has only lost two of its last 31 Champions League games, whereas Bayern was the only side to collect maximum points in this season's group stage.

Welcome to the highlights of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT'S FULL-TIME IN THIS UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTERFINAL

AND IT'S FINISHED BARCELONA 2-8 BAYERN MUNICH.

That's all we have for you from this incredibly wild encounter, if I may put it this way. Thank you so much for joining us. Do catch us for the live coverage of tomorrow's quarterfinals. Until then, goodnight. CIAO!

2 goals from Muller, 2 from Coutinho! One each from Kimmich, Gnabry, Lewandowski and Perisic.

Both halves had identical scorelines. 4-1 in favour of Bayern Munich.

How do you summarise a game like this? A game in which Messi's team loses 8-2, slumps to its worst-ever defeat in Europe. It wasn't mean to end like this! Many of us will take time to recover from this. Even if you aren't a Barcelona supporter, you will feel for Messi and CO. It's safe to predict that this was Quique Setien's last game as Barca's manager.

90+2' full-time whistle and that's that!!! THIS HAS BEEN A SLAUGHTER BY BAYERN MUNICH!

Two minutes have been added on!

Coutinho scores his second.

89' GOOOOOAALLLLLL!!!!!! COUTINHO SCORES A SECOND IN FOUR MINUTES!!!! HE DOESN'T CELEBRATE AGAINST THE CLUB HE IS ON LOAN FROM!! EVEN THE BAYERN PLAYERS ARE CELEBRATING!! THREE GOALS IN SEVEN MINUTES!! BARCELONA LOOKING AT ITS WORST-EVER DEFEAT IN EUROPE!!

Coming to the goal, Muller beats his markers and has ample space at the edge of the box. He lays it to Coutinho who finishes with ease.

85' GOOOOOALLLLLL!!!!! IT'S SEVEN GOALS PAST BARCELONA! IS THIS HAPPENING FOR REAL? IS THIS HAPPENING FOR REAL? I CANNOT BELIEVE MY EYES!

85' Yellow card for Kimmich.

84' SUBSTITUTION FOR BAYERN! Tolisso, Lucas Hernandez- IN |  Davies, Goretzka - OUT

YESSS, THE GOAL STANDS!! ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI ON THE SCORESHEET. 6-2

Okay, the goal is being checked to see if Robert was off side. Is this going to be 50th UCL goal for Robert Lewandowski with Bayern?

82' GOOOOOOALLLL!!! THERE YOU GO!! A FEW SECOND AFTER I MENTION LEWANDOWSKI, HE SCORES!!! 6-2 TO BAYERN MUNICH!! Coming to the goal, Coutinho wins the ball inside the box, near theb byline on the left and has all the time in the world to find a man in open space. He spots Lewandowski and chips the ball across. ter Stegen doesn't even attempt to save it and Lewandowski obliges with a free header.

80' 10 minutes plus stoppage time to go! Let's not forget, Lewandowski is yet to score and Bayern already has netted  past Ter Stegen.

This is only the second time Barcelona has conceded 5 goals in a UEFA Cup game. Insane stat, this!

77' SAVE! Comfortable save for Neuer. Messi, from the edge of the box on the left, goes low and hard at goal but the angle is too tight for him to drag it wide of Neuer.

75' SUBSTITUTION FOR BAYERN! Coutinho, Sule- IN |  Boateng, Gnabry - OUT

We have completely forgotten about Messi tonight because it's all Bayern. The ball has barely reached Messi, especially in the second half. That's an indication of Bayern's domination tonight.

70' SUBSTITUTION FOR BARCELONA! Ansu Fati- IN |  Sergio Busquets- OUT

68' BLOCKED! Coman almost scored off his first touch in the game! Once again, Barcelona made to look amateur while defending. The defence is stretched with an attack from the left. Ter Stegen leaves his goal line and leave an open goal for Bayern. The cut back falls to Coman but his shot is blocked by Jordi Alba. Corner conceded but nothing comes off it.

67' SUBSTITUTION FOR BAYERN! Kinglsey Coman- IN |  Ivan Perisic- OUT

Take a bow, Alphonso Davies!!! He darts down the left flank, from the wing-back position on his own. He beats Semedo and runs to the byline. He then cuts it back, beating Semedo's tackle and Kimmich does the rest by netting the ball with ease. Ter Stegen is off his line and the path was clear for Kimmich.

63' GOOOOOOAALLLLLL!!! WHATTT A SENSATIONAL GOAL FROM BAYERN MUNICH!!!! DAVIES WITH MAGIC ON THE LEFT FLANK AND KIMMICH WITH THE FINISH!!! WOW!! SURELY, THAT'S GAME OVER!

Frustrations aplenty in Lisbon now. The game has slowed down because both teams are going hard at each other. More than three bookings already in the second half and just one goal.

61' Yellow card for one of the Bayern's coaching staff members.

60' Yellow card for Jordi Alba!

57' GOOOALLL!!! BARCELONA PULLS ONE BACK THROUGH SUAREZ! The peril of Bayern maintaining a high line is getting caught off-guard like it did on this occasion. A long ball from the back finds de Jong on the left. He cuts it back to Suarez, who out foxes Boateng with a dummy. Suarez looks to unleash a shot off his right foot and Boateng commits. Suarez then pulls it to his left and beats Neuer with a neat finish.

54' YELLOW CARD FOR SUAREZ! He is booked for a dangerous tackle on Thiago by stepping on his left foot from behind!

53' GOOOALLLL!! LEWANDOWSKI EVENTUALLY GETS HIS GOAL ON THE NIGHT! Oh, wait! Scratch that!!! Off-side! On the Bayern attack, Perisic takes the ball forward and has two options available in Muller and Lewandowski. He cuts in to the edge of the box before threading the ball to Muller. The German turns and plays it quickly to Lewandowski who beats the out-of-position Ter Stegen with ease. But the goal is disallowed as Muller was off-side!

50' YELLOW CARD FOR DAVIES He gets into a tussle with Vidal for a header but ends up in the book.

49' SAVED! Bayern attack starting all the way from the back with Neuer. His pass finds Lewandowski, who turns around and plays a quick pass to the incoming Perisic. The Crotian midfielder takes a first-time shot but blasts the ball straight to Ter Stegen.

46' Bayern Munich sets the bal rolling.

SECOND HALF BEGINS!

Players are back out and Barcelona has made a half-time substitution! GRIEZMANN- IN|  Sergi Roberto-OUT

==================

Bayern Munich is schooling Barcelona here. And that's not something you get to hear about a team with Messi in it. Bayern leads 4-1 and Lewandowski hasn't even scored. This is a proper drubbing and we cannot wait to see what the second half has in store for us.

45' HALF-TIME!!!! NO ADDED TIME AND A BLISTERING FIRST HALF COMES TO AND END!

42' YELLOW FOR BOATENG! He takes on for the team. After Thiago loses the ball to a rather aggressive challenge from Suarez, Boateng brings the Uruguyan striker with a late tackle. Had he not done that, Suarez could have easily dart down the centre without any pressure.

"Thomas Müller has now scored 23 goals in the Champions League knockout stages, the third-most of any player behind Cristiano Ronaldo (67) and Lionel Messi (47)."- COURTESY OPTA STATS

39' LEWANDOWSKI ON TARGET! Barcelona concedes another corner and the cross is deliverd into the centre of the box. Lewandowski climbs over his marker but heads the ball directly into the hands of Ter Stegen.

37' BLAZED OVER! Barcelona not learning from its mistakes tonight. Despite conceding four goals to a high Bayern press, Ter Stegen still decides to play a quick pass to Pique. The defender is slow on the turn and loses the ball to Perisic. From the edge of the box, he curls the ball looking for the far post but drags it wide.

Just as I finish writing about one goal, Bayern scores another. That's three goals in 10 minutes. Coming to the goal, Kimmich gets to the end of a  wayward cross from the left flank on the right. Incoming Mullers senses an opportunity and Kimmich drills a low, quick ball into the box. Muller sticks his leg out and manages to beat Ter Stegen with absolute ease.

31' GOOOOALLLL!!!!!! IS THIS THE GAMEE?? BAYERN MUNICH ARE ABSOLUTELY PUNISHING BARCELONA TODAY! What has happened to Barcelona today???

What a smart, smart goal. Thiago, from the centre of the field plays a free pass to Muller. Muller then chips the ball over Lenglet with the first touch. Gnabry beats the defender for pace and easily slpts the ball into the back of the net.

27' GOOOOALLLLL!!! BAYERN NOW RUNNING AWAY WITH THE GOAL!!! THE LEAD IS NOW OF TWO GOALS AND IT'S THE SEVENTH GOAL OF THIS UCL SEASON FOR GNABRY.

Coming to the goal, Serge Gnabry was the architect of the goal. The high press leads to Gnabry stealing the ball. He darts forward and lays a quick pass to his left to Perisic. Lewandowski is lurking at the far corner but Perisic takes a shot at goal himself. An out-stretched Ter Stegen gets his left foot out but ball deflects off his boot and into the far corner.

21' GOOOOALLLLL!!!! PERISIC SCORES TO GIVE BAYERN THE LEAD!!! THE DANGEROUS BAYERN PRESS RESULTS IN ANOTHER GOALL!

20' SAVE! Messi, from the edge of the box on the right, drops his shoulder, cuts to his left and take a crack at goal. He tries to curl the ball to the far post but ends up hitting it straight to Neuer.

19' SHOULD THAT BE A YELLOW FOR DE JONG? Frenkie De Jong and Joshu Kimmich tussle for the ball and the latter brings down the former with a soft tackle. But De Jong's reaction suggests he was impeded heavily. Kimmich signals the referee to degarnish a yellow but nothing doing.

18' OVER! Bayern wins a corner after Jordi Alba cleared the ball out of harm's way to end Bayern's previous attack. The ball from the right post lands in the centre and Goretzka heads the ball just over the crossbar.

WOW! Only 15 minutes have passed and this match has been FULL OF ACTIONS, THRILLS AND SPILLS ALREADY!!

12' BLOCKED! Alphonso Davies' cross from the left flank has Goretzka waiting inside the box. But Clement Lenglet intercept the cross and heads ball over the byline for a corner. Nothing comes off it.

11' YELLOW FOR LIONEL MESSI! The Davies-Messi battle has its first casualty as Messi brings down the former with a tackle from behind and immediately puts his hands up. He knew that he was going to be booked and that's what happened.

10' MESSI HITS THE POST!  A short corner taken by Barca and Messi curls the ball into the box deep from the right flank. It's a little too strong for Suarez and Neuer leaves it thinking it will drag wide. But the ball dips in sharply and richochets off the post.

9' SAVEE!! Semedo plays a clever through ball from the right of the box and sets up Suarez. The striker only has Neuer to beat but the German keeper makes himself large and saves to concede the corner.

Coming to the goal. Jordi Alba is freed on the left flank with a sumptuous lob through from the back. Bayern's high line of defence is exposed. Alba has  Suarez for support and he squares the ball to his right seeking Suarez. David Alba tries to clear the ball over the post but ends up dinking over his own keeper into the top far corner.

7' GOOOOALLLL!!!! THIS IS AN EXTRA-ORDINARY OWN GOAL AN NEUER CAN ONLY SMILE!! This match has gotten off to an absolute belter of a start!!! David Alba the culprit!

Coming to the goal. Bayern counter-attack catches Barca's defence off-guard. The back 4 were completely stretched. Perisic is freed with a timely through ball down the left flank. He zips down the flank and squares it with a lobbed cross. Muller gets to the ball first at the edge of the box, plays a one-two with Lewandowski, who is inside the box, and beats Ter Stegen to the left post with ease.

4' GOOOOOALLLL!!!!! A HUGE GOAL EARLY ON!!!! IT'S THOMAS MULLER WITH THE FIRST GOAL INSIDE FOUR MINUTES!! BARCELONA DEFENCE BREACHED SO EARLY ON IN THIS QUARTERFINAL!

1' Barcelona getS the gamer underway

MATCH PREVIEW

The two former champions still left in the Champions League have to face each other for a chance to end their title drought in Europe.

Lionel Messi will lead Barcelona against Robert Lewandowski and Bayern Munich in Saturday’s high-profile quarterfinal in Lisbon.

Both are five-time European champions, and both are in the quarterfinals for a record 18th time, but neither has lifted the European trophy recently. Barcelona’s last title was in 2015, and Bayern last won it in 2013.

Bayern and Barcelona are the only teams among the last eight to have won the competition.

It will be the first time the European powerhouses meet in the Champions League since 2015, when Barcelona eliminated Bayern in the semifinals. They also met in the semifinals when Bayern last lifted the trophy in 2013, with the German team advancing 7-0 on aggregate.

"I don’t look too much at the past,” Bayern coach Hansi Flick said Thursday, through a translator. “The most important thing is the match tomorrow. Both teams have many qualities. And when these teams play against each other you also need a bit of luck,” he added.

No team has more victories over Barcelona in the Champions League than Bayern - five in eight matches - and it is coming off a streak of eight straight victories in this season’s European competition. The last win was against Chelsea to secure its spot in the last eight.

"We know the potential of our rival, we are not going to downplay that,” Barcelona coach Quique Setien said on Thursday. “It’s true that they have an extraordinary potential, but so do we. It’s going to be an even match, and I’m certain that we will have our chances as well,” he added.

Lewandowski has been Bayern’s biggest weapon, helping the team score a total of 24 goals in the group stage. The Polish forward had 34 goals in the Bundesliga this season, finishing only two behind Lazio’s Ciro Immobile in Serie A.

"Lewandowski is truly extraordinary,” said Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, a former Bayern player. “He is very dangerous and it will be very hard to defend against him, but we will be prepared.”

Lewandowski is the top scorer in this season’s Champions League with 13 goals. He needs one more to reach 50 with Bayern in the competition. His total of 66 makes him the fourth-highest scorer in Champions League history, behind Raul Gonzalez (71), Lionel Messi (115) and Cristiano Ronaldo (130).

Barcelona could see the return of Ousmane Dembele to help in attack. The French forward has recovered from a long injury layoff and Setien said he may get some minutes off the bench during the tournament in Lisbon.

Messi was Barcelona’s leading scorer with 25 Spanish league goals this season, a disappointing one for the Catalan club. It could be the first for Barcelona without a major title since 2007-08. The team’s complicated season included a coaching change and public disputes between players and team officials.

Barcelona struggled after the Spanish league resumed amid the coronavirus pandemic, relinquishing the league lead - and the title - to Real Madrid. It eliminated Napoli in the round of 16 of the Champions League, but only the European title will bring some peace back to the club and Setişn.

"It’s the most important match of the year for us,” Vidal said. “We are hopeful that we can win this title. We know that Bayern had a spectacular year and that it will be difficult for us. But we are Barcelona and if we do what we know we can do, we have great chances of advancing. We will give everything we have,” he added.
