Kerala Blasters FC has signed Dutch defender Gianni Zuiverloon ahead of the sixth season of the Indian Super League (ISL). The 32-year-old had made his ISL debut for Delhi Dynamos last season. Prior to his time in India, the former Under-21 Dutch player has had played in Netherlands, Spain and England.

“I am very excited to play for Kerala Blasters, the club with the biggest fan base in India. Every home game has seen immense support from the fans. I hope I can help and be a part of the best season the club has had so far,’’ Zuiverloon said after putting pen to paper.

Kerala Blasters' newly appointed coach Eelco Schattorie said: “Gianni is a very experienced defender having played at very good clubs in Holland, England and Spain. He can play multiple positions as centre back, holding midfielder and even at right back positions. With the ball, he is very solid, creative and can make a good pass. Most importantly he is a rock at the defence. I’m very happy to have him in the team."

Zuiverloon began his career with the Feyenoord youth team and made his senior debut for the club in 2004. He later played for RKC Waalwijik and Heerenveen, before making his Premier League debut for West Bromwich Albion in 2008. He also represented Ipswich Town in 2010. He then moved to Spain and played for La Liga club Mallorca before returning to Netherlands in 2012.

He returned to Heerenveen, and later signed for ADO Den Haag and played three seasons for the club. In 2016, Zuiverloon moved back to Spain to join Cultural Leonesa and stayed with the club till 2018.
