Aditi Ashok was placed T-42 after the first round.

India’s Aditi Ashok made a creditable start with an even par 72 that provisionally placed her tied-42 in the first round of the ANA Inspiration golf here.

Aditi had three each of birdies and bogeys in her round.

The ANA Inspiration is one of the five Majors for women’s golf, and after her maiden appearance at Women’s British Open last year, this is Aditi’s second career Major.

Aditi, who turned 19 a day before the start of the year’s first women’s Major, had a rough start with two bogeys in her first three holes after starting from the tenth on a very windy day.

One of the early starters on the first day, Aditi did very well to recover from that start as she birdied 13th and 15th to get back to even par.

But another bogey on par-4 16th meant she turned in one-over. On the second nine, she played very steady with one birdie on par-3 fifth and pars on the rest.

Play was suspended due to high winds a couple of hours after Aditi finished and 45 minutes later play was called for the day.

The Rookie of the Year in 2016, Aditi has had just two starts in 2017 — one each on LPGA and LET. She was T-52 at Women’s Australian Open, which is part of LPGA and was T-51 at Oates Victorian Open on the LET.

Ladies European Tour member Karine Icher from France took the early lead on day one, going out in the morning wave, ahead of the forecasted high winds. She posted a five-under par, 67 to lead by one ahead of Michelle Wie, So Yeon Ryu, Sung Hyun Park and amateur Eun Jeong Seong, who sit in a share of second at four-under par at the season’s first Major.

Icher is a five-time winner on the LET and a three-time Solheim Cup player (2002, 2013 and 2015) who is on target to represent Europe for a fourth time under Annika Sorenstam at Des Moines in Iowa in August.
