India has been one of the most successful teams in the ongoing Asia Cup after posting easy wins over Japan and Bangladesh in its first two outings. On the other hand, Pakistan got off to a rollicking start when it beat Bangladesh in its first match but dropped points when it shared the spoils with Japan in its last match.

This has been clinical from India. It beats Pakistan 3-1 and wins its third match on the trot. Both India and Pakistan progress to the Super 4 stage.

58" Back-to-back penalty corners for India. Harmanpreet cannot get his strike on target. Meanwhile, India takes a referral for another penalty corner. The umpire upholds and India gets another penalty corner, its third in a minute. Harmanpreet misses the resulting corner too. India refers for another penalty corner but the TV umpire overrules the call and India loses its referral.

57" India gets a chance. Surender feeds a ball to Akashdeep but the striker sends the ball over the goal.

56" Just under four minutes left and India keeping the play confined to the midfield and passing across the flanks.

55" Pakistan has had four shots on target as opposed to India's one.

51" India is losing possession as Pakistan ups the ante. Muhammed Atiq runs down with the ball but Akash Chikte, back guarding the post, saves the blushes for India.

India needs to hold on to the lead for 10 more minutes to register its third win on the trot.

49" Defensive melee and Pakistan gets a penalty corner. And the resulting strike leads to another skirmish near the goalmouth and the umpires have gone upstairs to figure out the result after Pakistan has asked for a referral for another penalty corner.

47" Pakistan pulls one back. Sardar Singh couldn't clear the ball on time and the Ali Shah, Pakistan forward, latches on to the mistake in a jiffy and scores. Pakistan 1 India 3.

Fourth and final quarter begins

What a productive third quarter for India. Pakistan was down to nine men but that didn't make a difference as India scored two in a minute before the end of the quarter.

End of third quarter. India leads 3-0.

45" Second penalty corner for India. And India scores. Harmanpreet makes it 3-0 with a ferocious drag flick.

 

44" India extends its lead. Ramandeep Singh just dives near the goalmouth to deflect Manpreet's strike from the right and India takes a 2-0 lead.

42" Pakistan gets a penalty corner. But Rashid Mahmood cannot time it inside the goal and the ball soars over.

39" India gets its first penalty corner. Varun Kumar shoots it wide.

38" Harmanpreet sends a beauty to Ramandeep Singh but the Indian forward cannot do justice as he loses the ball. And Pakistan get all 11-men back.

37" With just nine men, it is only understandable that Pakistan is slowing the pace of the game completely.

34" A chance for Pakistan to draw level. But an alert Indian goalkeeper averts danger. Shan Ali only had to beat Akash Chikte, which he did, but couldn't get it past the Indian custodian Surender Kumar.

32" Pakistan's Abu Mahmood and Md. Rizwan Sr. get a five-minute suspension. The former for a stick change and the latter for a harsh tackle on Manpreet Singh. Pakistan is now down to nine men. This could be India's best chance to extend its lead.

Third quarter begins

India has been the better team in the first 30 minutes. It has showed good intent and has used both the flanks effectively, thereby keeping the field spread out. India did not get one penalty corner opportunity whereas Pakistan has had two but it wasn't able to convert any. Pakistan has been good in the defence line too denying India more than once.

End of second quarter. At halftime, India lead Pakistan 1-0.

29" India tries to the take the attack by using both the flanks effectively but cannot make any inroads.

27" Uthappa takes a high ball from the midfield but loses the ball in a defensive melee.

24" Pakistan comes close to restoring parity. But a great save by the Indian goalkeeper doesn't do any damage to the scoreline.

22" Pakistan gets another penalty corner opportunity. And India keeps the lead. Suraj Karkera saves the shot by guiding the ball over and above the goal post.

20" Pakistan trying to slow the pace of the match but India gets another opening. But Lalit Upadhyay's shot is a tad slow.

17" India takes the lead. Chinglensana Singh scores. He latches on to a pass from Akashdeep, who was on the left flank, and times his shot to perfection as the Indian bench erupts.

Second quarter begins

End of first quarter. The deadlock remains. India 0 Pakistan 0

14" Pakistan gets a penalty corner. First of the game. Poor shot and it is missed by Pakistan. The Indians try to surge ahead on a counter attack but loses possession near the circle.

12" Pakistan's Md. Rizwan Jr. gets a green card. A two-minute suspension.

11" Pakistan is good at its defence and India trying to find gaps and take an opening but the players haven't been able to do so.

9" Manpreet Singh senses a gap from the midfield and sends a rocket towards the goalpost. Akashdeep, lurking near the penalty spot, sadly cannot make his contact with precision as the ball goes wide.

7" Pakistan doing well to keep India at bay. The players clearing the ball very fast and trying for a counter attack.

6" Akashdeep Singh runs through the left flank but loses possession after taking it inside the 'D'.

5" India slowly builds the attack. The players start getting into the circle a couple of times but cannot make any inroads yet.

2" Both teams start on a tad defensive note. India has a lot of play in the midfield.

First quarter begins

The teams are in a huddle and we are all ready for action from Dhaka.

The teams are now ready for the National Anthems. The Pakistan anthem first followed by India's.

The teams are out warming up as the respective coaches give a deluge of instructions to the players for the all-important match. With the weather forecast at 32 degrees, tempers might just surge after the hooter.

India and Pakistan have met 170 times earlier with India winning 57, sharing points 30 times and losing 82 times. In the last match against Pakistan, India won 6-1 at the HWL in London.
