The 'Elite Player Retention' list for the seventh edition of the Pro Kabaddi League was announced on Monday. Among the top names to be retained are Pawan Kumar Sehrawat (Bengaluru Bulls), Pardeep Narwal (Patna Pirates), Ajay Thakur (Tamil Thalaivas) and Fazel Atrachalli (U Mumba).
Interestingly, the four Indians who were bought in excess of 1 crore during last season's auctions- Monu Goyat (Haryana Steelers - 1.51 crore), Rahul Chaudhari (Telugu Titans - FBM - 1.29 crore), Nitin Tomar (Puneri Paltan - 1.15 crore) and Rishank Devadiga (UP Yoddha - FBM - 1.11 crore) - have all been released by their respective squads.
Deepak Niwas Hooda, who was bought by Jaipur Pink Panthers for 1.15 crore, was the costliest Indian player retained. While most teams retained a minimum of two elite players, Puneri Paltan was the only team to release all of them.

The retained elite players will continue their association with their respective franchises for the upcoming season beginning on July 19. A total of 29 players were retained as compared to last season’s 21. The non-retained players will go under the hammer at the auctions to be held on April 8 and 9.

Following the objective of building continuity, PKL has introduced a new category where a franchise can retain a New Young Players once his 2-year contract is completed under the “Retained Young Players” category. These Retained Young players are over and above the existing cap of 6 New Young players that a franchise can have. The retained Young Players list will be announced at a later date.
