Patna Pirates had a field day against the Tamil Thalaivas on Saturday when it registered a rather one-sided 35-24 victory. In a game of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) here, the Pirates rode on its raiders to clip the wings of the outfit from Tamil Nadu.

Monu Goyat was the leader of the pack, who weighed in 11 raid points, with the support of catcher Jaidip. While skipper Pardeep Narwal looked tad dodgy, raiding six points, the Pirates maintained its dominance over the opponent throughout. That helped it reach to 27 points in Zone B, within catching distance of leader UP Yoddha, which now has 30 points from 11 games.

Thalaivas captain Ajay Thakur’s 10 raid points kept the side in the hunt,  but with little support from fellow players, it was left to rue squandered chances. In a dismal season, it has won only one of its seven ties.

But then, it did put the Pirates under pressure initially. As the Patna skipper looked off-colour, the Thalaivas took the advantage and amassed a 6-3 lead at one stage.

Things could have gone haywire from there, but the Pirates slowly returned to the game, to lead 16-9 at the break. Four points each from captain Pardeep and defender Jaideep took the initiative away from the Thalaivas, for whom Darshan made his mark in catching.

Thalaivas needed to return strong to put the brakes on Pirates' attack, but the raiders fell into the trap, thus dashing its chances of revival.

In the second match of the day, Puneri Paltans edged U Mumba 26-24.
