Former world number one Serena Williams will not play again this season as she recovers from knee surgery. "I really miss playing tennis and I can't wait to come back and compete," said Williams.
"However, I feel that I need more time to prepare and get myself in the best shape possible.
"I'd like to thank all of the fans who have been so supportive. I'll be back, better than ever."
Williams has not competed since winning the Wimbledon title in July and was recently rocked by the death of her sister. She missed out on defending her US Open title in August. Williams' sister Venus has also been sidelined since losing in the Wimbledon final with an abdominal strain.
