What is your motto in life?
To be honest with what I do and stay grounded. And also do everything passionately.
What is your favourite holiday destination?
New Zealand. But I would like to explore Europe.
Someone you would go to when you are in doubt?
It has to be Cheteshwar (Pujara). He is the one I always go to whenever in doubt — be it about my game or otherwise. We have been friends for long and he has always backed me.
What are the other sports that you play?
I play badminton and table tennis.
If not a cricketer, what would you have been?
I would have looked after our business.
Most memorable sporting moment?
When I was handed the Test cap for India in 2010. Playing for India is a big deal, and I still enjoy that moment.
Something you would like to forget?
As a player, I don’t want to get injured while playing a match. That’s one thing I would like to forget.
Who is your sporting hero?
Rafael Nadal.
Which is your favourite venue?
The Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
Your advice to youngsters?
Keep working hard and stay grounded. Always play with passion and don’t let pressure affect you. It is important to play with dedication and if you are under pressure, you can’t enjoy the game.

It has been Jay or Jaylal. But now, my friends call me JD.
What is the one thing you always carry with you?
My Playstation.

There is no such fear.
