The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award was conferred upon wrestler Bajrang Punia, and Paralympic athlete, Deepa Malik, who became the first Indian woman para-athlete and the oldest to be honoured with the award. For the Arjuna award, a total of 19 athletes were nominated. The Dronacharya award (regular and lifetime category) had six nominees; the Dhyan Chand award was presented to five athletes.
