With the main objective to harness local potential and explore new ideas towards making sports an integral part of education in Jammu & Kashmir, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) felicitated leading sportspersons of the region at its second leg of the Global School Sports Forum – Integrating Education and Sports, held in Srinagar.
Bilquis Mir (water sports), Ishfaq Ahmed (football) and Mehrajuddin Wadoo (football) were felicitated for their outstanding excellence and making the state and India proud.
Deep Mukherjee, CEO, CII National committee and Head of Sports Development, Star India, said: ”We need to look at school sports with the lens of education. Sports should be an integral part of the school curriculum for children. We are looking at creating new opportunities for the children in Srinagar by integrating sports and education towards realising the dream of Samagra Shiksha and the vision of making '300 million children playing 60 minutes daily' — #MakingIndiaPlay.”
Mr Juan Pablo Ramirez Miranda, Programme Specialist, Head of Social Sciences and Human Sciences, UNESCO, emphasised “the importance of being mindful of gender equality because of the power of sports for girls and women empowerment,” and signalled the social value of investments on quality physical education.
The conclave was followed by a football match involving women’s team from Eithiad FC and J.J. 7 FC.
