Nine-time champion Saurav Ghosal is looking to equal R.K.Narpat Singh’s ten titles.

In hot pursuit of his tenth senior national men’s singles title, top seed Saurav Ghosal routed qualifier Ranjit Singh in straight games to enter the quarter-final of the Otters Club 73rd Senior National Squash championship at the Club’s glass back courts here on Wednesday.

After declaring that the arrangements for the nationals have been pleasantly unprecedented at the renovated club in suburban Bandra, the 29-year-old nine-time champion looking to equal R.K.Narpat Singh’s ten titles played well within himself to bring an end to the hopes of the qualifier who is a younger to him by 12 years. Ghosal will run into Tamil Nadu’s 20-year-old Vijay Kumar in the last eight.

The No. 2 seed Mahesh Mangaonkar beat Abhishek Pradhan without being stretched, but Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu (Jt. No. 3 seed with Vikram Malhotra) was almost given a scare by qualifier Gaurav Nandrajog. The 27-year-old 2014 national champion, Sandhu, clinched the decider easily to enter the quarter-finals.
