Ankita Raina through to semis in China

Ankita Raina defeated Eudice Chong Wong of Hong Kong 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.

Ankita Raina will play Ying-Ying Duan of China in the semifinals.

Second seed Ankita Raina recovered from a sedate start to beat Eudice Chong Wong of Hong Kong 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the $60,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Luan, China, on Friday.

Ankita was down 0-4 at the start, but turned the match around in the second set from 4-3. In the decider, after exchange of breaks, it was Eudice who was serving for the match at 5-4, but Ankita won the last three games, dropping five points in all to seal the issue.

Both the players converted seven break points each. Ankita won 88 points to 86 by the Hong Kong girl, in the contest that spanned nearly two hours.

In the semifinals, Ankita will play Ying-Ying Duan of China.

In the $162,480 Challenger in Korea, Vishnu Vardhan in partnership with Toshihide Matsui of Japan reached the doubles final. The duo will await the winner of the match between the first and third seeds in the top half.

In the Challenger in Shymkent, Arjun Kadhe in partnership with Denis Yevseyev of Kazakhstan was beaten in straight sets by the top seeds Goncalo Oliveira and Andrei Vasilevski in the doubles semifinals.
