Pranjala, Rutuja have robust start in Thailand

Pranjala Yadlapalli beat Thaliand’s Nathapat Piwbangruk 6-0, 6-0 while Rutuja Bhosale got the better of Thailad’s Natcharee Teerachodjranon with the same scoreline in the $15,000 ITF women’s tournament in Hua Hin.

Pranjala Yadlapalli got off to a flying start by thumping Nathapat Piwbangruk of Thailand 6-0, 6-0.

Two of the country’s former Asian junior champions Pranjala Yadlapalli and Rutuja Bhosale had robust start in the $15,000 ITF women’s tournament in Hua Hin, as they blanked their opponents in the first round on Monday.

However, Zeel Desai who has graduated out of the junior ranks at the US Open, had a tough start as she was beaten 7-5, 6-3 by Emma Hurst of Britain.

In doubles, the top seeded Sowjanya Bavisetti and Rishika Sunkara were beaten in straight sets by the Thai pair of Watsachol Sawasdee and Chanikarn Silakul, in the pre-quarterfinals.

In the $75,000 men’s Challenger in Turkey Divij Sharan, who had assisted the Indian Davis Cup in its preparation in New York, was beaten in the first qualifying round of singles. Divij has been seeded third in doubles in partnership with compatriot Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan.

Elsewhere, top seed Chandra Bhushan beat Uttam Bogati of Nepal 6-4, 6-0 in the first round of the ITF grade-5 seniors tennis tournament in Pokhara, Nepal, on Monday.
