Narsingh and two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar are engaged in a dispute over the 74kg freestyle quota place for the Rio Olympics.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) have written to Haryana Police to provide security to wrestler Narsingh Yadav at the national camp in Sonepat.

Acting on a newspaper report about possible security threats to Narsingh, the WFI on Thursday wrote to Haryana Police. “We have requested the police to arrange security for Narsingh so that he can train smoothly at the Sonepat camp,” said a WFI official on Friday.

Meanwhile, on receiving inputs from the regional director of the SAI centre, Sonepat, the SAI Director General Injeti Srinivas has written to the Haryana Police about Narsingh’s security.

Narsingh and two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar are engaged in a dispute over the 74kg freestyle quota place for the Rio Olympics. While Narsingh has been claiming his right to go to the Olympics on the basis of earning the quota place, Sushil has been demanding a trial between him and Narsingh to ascertain who will travel to Rio.

After the WFI did not show any interest to hold the trial, Sushil recently moved court requesting for a trial.
