Sportstar Aces Awards: Pujara wins Chairman's Choice Award

India's reliable No. 3 batsman Cheteshwar Pujara won the Chairman's Choice Award, at the Sportstar Aces Awards supported by Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy, in association with MRF here on Thursday.

It was presented by N. Ram, Chairman of The Hindu Publishing Group.

Accepting the award, Pujara said, "It is an honour to be part of a wonderful evening. Watching the ball has come naturally to me. I worked hard in net sessions. I practice for hours and hours."

 

"It has been a tough journey. I lost my mother to cancer at 17. She blessed me with a good career ahead. She wanted me to be a nice human being. My father played the role of my mother too. My father has been coaching me, since I was 8. He is a strict coach. He never allowed me to celebrate festivals, always wanted me to practice for hours and hours. I am grateful he has been with me."

Former India cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar, The Hindu Publishing Group chairman N. Ram, former India hockey captain M.M. Somaya, Olympian shooter Anjali Bhagwat and Olympian long-jumper Anju Bobby George selected the deserving winners in categories involving young athletes, teams, coaches and parathletes.
