B. Sai Praneeth also advanced to the third round after beating Spain’s Luis Enrique Penalver 21-18 21-11.

H.S. Prannoy wasted a one-game advantage to lose to Brazil’s Ygor Coelho 21-8 16-21 15-21 to bow out of the tournament.

Sindhu will face Korean Sung Ji Hyun in the next round.

Earlier, Kidambi Srikanth beat Pablo Abian 21-15 12-21 21-14 in the second-round game that lasted 62 minutes. He will meet Malaysia’s Daren Liew in the next round.

In doubles, Commonwealth Games silver medallists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost 18-21, 21-15, 16-21 to the Danish pair of Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

Ashwini Ponnappa and N. Siki Reddy went down 14-21 15-21 to Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota.

Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko, another Japanese pair, beat Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy 24-22 13-21 16-21.
