Agar seals thrilling final-ball Scorchers win

Ashton Agar smashed a six off the last ball from unlikely death bowler Aaron Finch to seal a dramatic four-wicket victory for Perth Scorchers over Melbourne Renegades.

Ashton Agar cleared the ropes needing three to win off the last ball to give the Perth Scorchers a second victory and consign the hosts to a first defeat.

Ashton Agar smashed a six off the last ball from unlikely death bowler Aaron Finch to seal a dramatic four-wicket victory for Perth Scorchers over Melbourne Renegades.

Finch stepped up to bowl the final over of Thursday's Big Bash League clash at Docklands Stadium in the absence of Dwayne Bravo, who was injured attempting to prevent a boundary.

The Renegades captain took a wicket and ran out opposite number Adam Voges from the next delivery, but Agar cleared the ropes needing three to win off the last ball to give the Scorchers a second victory and consign the hosts to a first defeat.

A classy 72 from Michael Klinger laid the foundations for the Scorchers' victory after David Willey (2-15) and Ashton Turner (2-25) impressed with the ball in the Renegades' 148-8.

Melbourne-born Klinger hit two sixes and a further six boundaries in a well-paced 55-ball knock, putting on 59 for the third wicket with Mitchell Marsh (34).

Sunil Narine (2-20) was the pick of the bowlers for the Renegades, who lost Bravo to a hamstring injury after the all-rounder had bowled just one over.

Cameron White top scored with 37 for the Renegades before evergreen tweaker Brad Hogg (0-31) failed to inspire a victory over his former franchise. 

FINCH FAILS TO PINCH IT

Eyebrows were raised when part-time bowler Finch took responsibility to bowl the decisive last over with the Scorchers needed nine to win.

The fired-up opening batsman looked set to have the last laugh when he had Marsh caught and spun sharply before running out Voges with a direct hit.

Agar took two from the next couple of deliveries, then cleared the midwicket boundary with a lusty blow to settle it and silence the crowd. 

BRAVO'S DANCING SHOES MAY GET A REST

Bravo has enjoyed a successful year in which West Indies won a second World Twenty20 title and his 'Champion' song also took off.

The Windies star may have to think twice about hitting the dancefloor on New Year's Eve, though, after he was carried off in agony clutching his hamstring.

Bravo will undergo a scan on Friday and will surely miss the derby against Melbourne Stars at the MCG on New Year's Day.
