CSK’s inter-school tournament from Dec 26

In addition to the tournament, Chennai Super Kings is also planning to start a CSK academy based in Chennai to develop its grassroots programme with involvement from CSK’s support staff and former TN players.

Chennai Super Kings will conduct its fourth edition of the Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 tournament from December 26 across seven districts in the first phase.

The final phase of the tournament will feature winner of six districts, and the winner and runner-up from Chennai will compete in Tirunelveli from January 7 to identify the winner of the Junior Super Kings Championship.

The invitational tournament sponsored by the Muthoot Group will have 16 schools from Chennai taking part in the first stage.

In the second phase of the tournament, the eight teams from the league stage will be divided into two groups of four each. The top two teams from each group will play in the semifinals.

Star Sports Tamil will shows highlights of all matches till the semifinals, with the final having a deferred telecast.

Tamil Nadu Ranji skipper Abhinav Mukund said, “I always used to look forward to playing these school tournaments where you can come and show your talent with your name appearing on the newspaper. Now these kids get a chance to play in front of the television. I hope the tournament brings out more talents.”

Kasi Viswanathan, former TNCA secretary and Sports Consultant, India Cements feels the tournament offers a chance to throw up talents not only for CSK but even the Tamil Nadu team.

The tournament will also be partnered by MS Dhoni’s apparel brand Seven. Arun Pandey, CMD of Rhiti Group, the parent of Seven and a close confidant of the World Cup winning captain, said, “Dhoni’s return is akin to a kid coming back home to see his mother. That is the kind of feeling he has and has always felt this place is like a home.”
