Hello and welcome to Sportstar's LIVE coverage of Day 3 of the 2nd Test match between India and New Zealand from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

DAY 3 SESSION 3 RECAP

Full quota of overs were bowled today as the light in Mumbai held on. New Zealand has shown some resistance in the second innings after a disastrous performance with the bat in the first. Daryl Mitchell led the Kiwis' defiance with a stroke-filled 92-ball 60 before holing out to deep cover after hitting a six down the ground off the previous ball. Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra saw off eight overs to end the day at 140 for 5.

Earlier in the day, India added 207 runs to its overnight score to take a mammoth 539-run second innings lead. Axar Patel scored a quickfire 26-ball 41 that included three fours and four sixes to stretch India's lead. Ajaz Patel picked four wickets to take his tally to 14 wickets while Ravindra scalped three to open his wickets account in Test cricket.

With India needing just five wickets to win the Test and the series 1-0, it is matter of time before play draws to a close on Day 4. Join us tomorrow at 9:30 AM IST for LIVE action. That is all from us for today. Take care and stay safe.

STUMPS DAY 3 - NEW ZEALAND 140/5, NEEDS 400 RUNS TO WIN.

NZ 140/5 in 45 overs: Final over of the day will be delivered by Ashwin. Full and straight on the stumps and forward-defended by Nicholls. Next one is on the legs and he flicks it to square leg for another dot. On the legs again and turned away. Beaten! Pitched up on off and spun away to beat his outside edge and a great take by Saha behind the stumps. Wide outside off and left alone. That's stumps.

NZ 140/5 in 44 overs: Four fielders around the bat for Ravindra. Axar bowls. He stretches forward to defend and gets an inside edge that dies on the pitch before getting to forward short leg. Well-defended and NZ just needs to play out one hour over.

NZ 140/5 in 43 overs: Maiden from Jayant. Some treacherous turn for him on the last ball and Saha does a good job behind the stumps to collect it.

NZ 140/5 in 42 overs: Axar replaces Ashwin. Half-hearted LBW appeal against Ravindra but the over the wicket angle meant the ball pitched outside leg. Kohli doesn't review. Edged past slip and Ravindra is off the mark with a couple.

NZ 138/5 in 41 overs: Here is Jayant again. FOUR! Nicholls cuts hard and it takes his top edge over the slip fielder and all the way to the boundary. Very lucky there but the force behind the shot ensured that there was enough momentum for it to trickle to the boundary.

NZ 134/5 in 40 overs: Ashwin continues. Beaten! Over the wicket to left-hander Ravindra and it turns away from his outside edge on a good length. Changes and comes round the wicket now. Length and on the stumps and he taps it off the backfoot. Ravindra connects well on the last ball but straight to the cover fielder. Maiden over.

NZ 134/5 in 39 overs: FOUR! Short and a bit of width from Jayant on the off and Nicholls cuts away hard towards the boundary at deep point. Corrects his length and keeps it to four from the over.

NZ 130/5 in 38 overs: Ashwin comes over the wicket to Nicholls. Tucked away off the backfoot for a single at square leg. Just the one from the over as Ravindra fends off Ashwin's over.

NZ 129/5 in 37 overs: OUT! A huge mix up in the middle and Blundell is run out! He drove it hard and straight to the cover fielder and took off for a risky single. Nicholls didn't oblige, leaving Blundell to scurry back to his crease. Ravindra comes in at No. 7.

NZ 129/4 in 36 overs: Nicholls sweeps Ashwin but a great save by Shreyas at square leg keeps it to a dot ball. Nicholls almost chops on off the last ball of the over. It was wide on off and he got the inside edge onto his pad trying to drive a carrom ball. Maiden over.

NZ 129/4 in 35 overs: Axar continues. Nicholls prods it to point off the backfoot for a single. SIX! Pitched up and straight and Mitchell goes down the ground for a maximum. OUT! Down the track again and this time he ends up slicing it high to deep extra cover. Didn't get close enough to the ball this time and it went off the bottom of the bat. Blundell is the new batter.

NZ 121/3 in 34 overs: Maiden over from Ashwin.

- DRINKS -

NZ 121/3 in 33 overs: Axar coming into the attack. Mitchell gets a single off the second ball. Nicholls ends the over with a reverse sweep for four. 7 from it in the end.

NZ 114/3 in 32 overs: Ashwin into the attack. Mitchell takes off for a quick single. Ashwin has just bowled three back-to-back beauties to Nicholls, who has been beaten each time. There's flight, turn and bounce from Ashwin. Nicholls has survived.

NZ 113/3 in 31 overs: Jayant Yadav continues. Nicholls sweeps nicely for four. Four dots follow.

NZ 109/3 in 30 overs: Umesh to Mitchell; thick edge races away to the fence. That brings up the 50 partnership. Next ball, gets a four to fine leg and brings up his 50, does Mitchell. Good innings. Three dots to finish. 15 overs remaining in the day's play.

NZ 101/3 in 29 overs: After conceding 4 byes off the first ball, Jayant goes full outside off and Mitchell plays a reverse sweep and collects four. Takes a quick single next ball. Missed stumping chance - Nicholls was a goner had Saha collected the ball cleanly. However, it is a no-ball. So, wouldn't have mattered. But Jayant goes short on the last ball, Nicholls pulls one through midwicket for four.

NZ 87/3 in 28 overs: Umesh Yadav into his fourth over. Mitchell content with defending at the moment. 1 leg bye off the last ball.

NZ 86/3 in 27 overs: Jayant Yadav continues. Four men catching around the bat. Nicholls plays out a maiden.

NZ 86/3 in 26 overs: Umesh to Mitchell, who pulls one to the deep square fence for four. There was a loud appeal for lbw off the fourth ball but India did not review. The replays show the ball would have crashed into the stumps - no inside edge off Nicholls's bat.

NZ 81/3 in 25 overs: Jayant Yadav into the attack. Slip, leg slip and short leg for Mitchell. Just a brace off the last ball.

NZ 79/3 in 24 overs: Umesh Yadav continues. Player review for caught behind vs Mitchell. On field decision is not out. Replays confirm it came off the thigh pad. Mitchell survives. Just a single off it.

NZ 78/3 in 23 overs: Ashwin to Mitchell, stunning drift as this turns from off and beats Mitchell's defensive push. After three dots, Mitchell takes a quick single. Nicholls picks up a brace off the last ball.

NZ 75/3 in 22 overs: Here's Umesh. Mitchell on strike. A single first ball. Nicholls gets a streaky boundary. Chases a drive but the thick outside edge flies over cordon.Just five from it.

NZ 70/3 in 21 overs: Ashwin resumes after break. Mitchell and Nicholls are at the crease. They will look to take New Zealand to stumps without further damage. Three singles from the over.

- DRINKS-

NZ 67/3 in 20 overs: FOUR! Short and wide from Axar and Nicholls went back and crunched it between cover and point to the boundary. And it is time for drinks.

NZ 63/3 in 19 overs: LBW appeal and given! Pitched on good length, held its line, and skidded onto his pads. Mitchell reviews straightaway and technology confirms a thick inside edge.

NZ 63/3 in 18 overs: SIX! Pitched up on the legs and Mitchell lifts it over the mid wicket boundary for a maxiumum. Skips down again and drives straight to cover along the ground and has to hurry for a quick single. Stifled LBW appeal against Nicholls but turned down. He stretched forward to defend one that was pitched up and missed it. It was spinning too much and would go on to miss leg stump.

NZ 56/3 in 17 overs: OUT! Taylor holes out and brings his short and tentative inning to an end. Slog sweeps and gets the top edge to Pujara who runs from close to the stumps to the square leg region to complete a good catch. Just a single to Mitchell from the over.

NZ 55/2 in 16 overs: Axar continues. Taylor flicks and Surya stretches out his leg to take it directly on his boot. FOUR! Beaten again with the ball turning in and it beats the keeper too to run to the boundary. There was no bat involved and just have been four-byes.

NZ 50/2 in 15 overs: Ashwin believes he has got his man but umpire think otherwise. Kohli reviews straightway. OUT! There was a big inside edge and it looped up to short leg. Bowled on good length, it spun in with some extra bounce and Young got an inside edge onto his pads and taken by substitute Surya at short leg. Taylor is the new man in and is beaten with some sharp spin again. It misses him and keeper and trickles for four byes. Taylor it off the mark with a jab to point for a single and fifty up for NZ.

NZ 45/1 in 14 overs: Axar changes ends. Full on off and Mitchell stretches forward to drive between cover and point for a couple. Two runs from the over.

NZ 43/1 in 13 overs: Ashwin from the other end. FOUR! Young charges down the pitch and smokes it straight over the bowler for a boundary. FOUR! Short and wide and Young cuts this away past point to the rope. Good over for NZ and their positive approach has held it in good stead so far against India's deadly spin attack.

NZ 35/1 in 12 overs: Jayant into the attack. FOUR! Too full and straight and Mitchell goes down the track again and pummels it to the mid wicket boundary. Adjusts his length and Mitchell punches off his backfoot for a single at mid on. Beaten! Flatter and this doesn't turn and beats Young's outside edge.

NZ 29/1 in 11 overs: Axar replaces Siraj. FOUR! In the slot outside off and Mitchell skips down the pitch and deposits it over long on. This one comes into Mitchell with the arm and he dabs it gently past cover for a couple. The last one goes off Mitchell's outside edge and he goes past slip for a single.

NZ 22/1 in 10 overs: Ashwin continues. Maiden over. He had Young in trouble there with a good length ball that came into him and went off his glove just wide of short leg. Saha should have taken it but he lost the ball as it ricocheted off several parts of the batter's body.

NZ 22/1 in 9 overs: FOUR! Mitchell punches it off the front foot to the long off boundary and Siraj is not pleased with Suryakumar's effort there at short mid-off. Another bouncer from Siraj but not so threatening this time. Driven arrow straight by Mitchell with perfect timing and Siraj fields brilliantly to keep it to a dot ball.

INJURY UPDATE: Mayank Agarwal got hit on his right forearm while batting in the second innings. He has been advised not to take the field as a precautionary measure. Shubman Gill got a cut on his right middle finger while fielding yesterday. He will not be taking the field today.

NZ 18/1 in 8 overs: FOUR! Young is looking to be aggressive. Full from Ashwin and Young chips it over short leg to find the boundary.

NZ 14/1 in 7 overs: Siraj steams in from the other end. Menacing bouncer into Mitchell and he does well to stay clear of it. Good length outside off, nipping in, and Mitchell leaves. Mitchell taps it back to Siraj and good fielding off his own bowling. Maiden over.

NZ 14/1 in 6 overs: Ashwin continues. He turns it into Mitchell and it goes off his pad to short leg. Mitchell pushes the next one to mid one and he is off the mark. Three dots to end the over.

NZ 13/1 in 5 overs: Siraj to Young. Bouncer first ball and Young ducks. LBW appeal but not given and Kohli goes for the review. Review confirms it was missing leg stump and India loses a review. It came into him on a good length but the ball was probably doing too much.

Back for the final session of play. Will India wrap up the game today?

- TEA - NZ 13/1 in 4 overs

RECAP: India all over New Zealand at the moment. They've lost the early wicket of Latham and a review. India need nine wickets to win the Test and with it, the series. Bizarre circumstances to take a break but we will be back with the final session shortly.

- BREAK -

RECAP: Axar Patel unbeaten on 41 off 26. Ajaz Patel the lone warrior with the ball. He finished with 14 wickets in the match. Rachin Ravindra chipped in with three. But this has been a dominant performance from the host. Back with the chase shortly.

Axar on the charge. Steps down and hits Ajaz down the ground for four. A single next ball. Jayant Yadav's turn to join the fun - lifts Ajaz over long-on for six. Jayant is caught and bowled. India declare. Wicket No. 14 for Ajaz.

IND 265/6 in 69 overs: Axar getting stuck into Ravindra. After smashing a six over midwicket, he guides one down to third man for four. 11 off the over.

IND 254/6 in 68 overs: Ajaz to continue with three men around the bat. Jayant on strike. Maiden over.

IND 254/6 in 67 overs: Ravindra to Saha, no run. Next ball, Saha tries to take him on, instead holes out to Jamieson , who is running back at long-on. Wicket No. 3 for Rachin. IND 221/5 in 63 overs: GONE! Kohli has chopped on. It was short and wide, should have been put away but not to be. Wicket No. 2 for Rachin. Axar Patel comes to the crease. 4 byes to finish the over.

IND 214/3 in 62 overs: Iyer is beaten, full from Patel, drifts in and spins away. Blundell collects the ball and takes the bails off. After multiple replays, the third mpire decides that no part of Iyer's foot is behind the crease. It's out. Patel has another one! Wicket No. 13 for him. Ian Botham took 13 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in 1980. Saha joins Kohli. He employs the sweep to collect four off the last ball.

IND 211/3 in 61 overs: SHOT! Iyer takes on Somerville. Two back-to-back sixes off him. Both are pumped over midwicket with disdain. 13 from the over.

IND 198/3 in 60 overs: Beaten! Kohli looks to cut Ravindra past point but is beaten for the lack of bounce. OUT! Gill holes out to short cover. Short of good length and Gill punched it off the backfoot only to hand it to Latham. First 'non-Ajaz' wicket for NZ.  Shreyas Iyer joins Kohli. Iyer is off the mark with a single. Dot to finish.

IND 196/2 in 59 overs: Full outside off from Somerville and Gill drags it to mid wicket for a single. Slightly closer to off stump and Gill reverse sweeps again. It goes off the top edge and he gets a couple at third man.

IND 192/2 in 58 overs: Good bounce and turn for Ravindra, getting Kohli's outside that a gully would have pocketed. FOUR! Too short and Kohli is all over it with a pull to the mid wicket boundary.

IND 188/2 in 57 overs: Somerville continues. Kohli takes one with a flick to mid wicket. Two balls on the leg turned away for a couple of singles and three runs from the over.

IND 185/2 in 56 overs: Length on off from Ravindra and Kohli guides it to point with an open face for a single. Gill fends it off to short cover and wants a single but turned away by Kohli.

IND 184/2 in 55 overs: Somerville again. Pitches on leg and turns it sharply away from Gill. Good length on off and Gill hangs back to punch to cover for a single. Kohli strides forward and guides a fuller one to mid on for one more. Just the two singles from the over but Somerville seems to be just filling in the overs as Ajaz recovers from a marathon spell. He hasn't shown any signs of troubling the batters.

IND 182/2 in 54 overs: Gill is getting some tape on his fingers. He had injured himself earlier in the match while fielding. Cuts Ravindra for a single at deep point. One more for Kohli with a backfoot punch to mid wicket. A no-ball from Ravindra. A couple for Gill off the next ball with an overthrow. Tucked away to mid one for a single and Gill retains strike.

IND 176/2 in 53 overs: FOUR! Gill reverse-sweeps Somerville for four, playing against the turn. Somerville goes middle and leg again and Gill sweeps it behind for a couple. Goes deep in the crease and turns it away for a single at backward square leg and keeps strike.

IND 169/2 in 52 overs: Tidy maiden over from Ravindra. Kohli looks at ease with his defence.

IND 169/2 in 51 overs: FOUR! Gill steps out again and drags it to the mid wicket boundary. Gill returns strike with a push to long on for a single. SIX! Kohli clears the rope this time. Goes down the track to Somerville and launches him over long on.

IND 157/2 in 50 overs: Just a couple of singles from that Ravindra over. He is bowling a little too quick to extract enough turn off the pitch. However, good line and length from him.

IND 155/2 in 49 overs: Somerville continues. SIX! Gill on the charge! Pitched up on middle and he steps out and hammers it over mid wicket. It just goes the distance though.

IND 147/2 in 48 overs: Ravindra from the other end. Good first over for him. Had Kohli in trouble. Spun it away from him with some extra bounce that got his edge and went to a vacant gully.

IND 143/2 in 47 overs: Somerville with the ball for the first time today. Pitched up on middle first ball and Kohli stretches forward to defend. Pitched on middle and leg and turned away; Kohli gets his pad on it while defending. Goes in the crease and turns it away to backward square leg for a single and keeps strike.

Back with LIVE action from the second session. India is 405 runs ahead and a declaration could be around the corner. The players make their way to the middle and Kohli takes strike.

- LUNCH - IND 142/2 in 46 overs

RECAP: India in firm control of the Test. They are 405 runs in front. Kohli and Gill are at the crease. Ajaz Patel was once again among the wickets, with dismissals of Mayank and Pujara. Southee bowled an accurate and lengthy spell but lack of penetrative bowling options has hamstrung them. Back with the second session at 12:10.

Last over before lunch. Rachin Ravindra to have a crack. Kohli on strike. A single off the third ball. Just a single off the over. It's lunch.

IND 141/2 in 45 overs: Jamieson to Gill, round the wicket. Gill pulls one to fine leg for a single. Three dots to Kohli follow. Another shor ball, Kohli pulls it to the fielder in the deep, single taken. Dot to finish.

IND 139/2 in 44 overs: Patel. Stifled appeal for lbw vs Kohli. Not given. NZ review. Clear edge on replay and Kohli survives. The next ball dips and drifts on Kohli, pitched on leg and spun across Kohli. 2 byes to India. Next ball, Kohli went deep in his crease and worked it to the leg side for three. Single and a dot to finish.

IND 133/2 in 43 overs : Jamieson goes round the wicket to Kohli. Short ball into Kohli who pulls, but straight straight to square leg. The next two balls are too far down leg and Kohli has no business getting anywhere near it. Kohli plays a controlled pull shot to fine leg for a single. Couple of dots to finish. 10 minutes to lunch.

IND 132/2 in 42 overs : Patel wheels away from the other end. Gill on strike. After four dots, Gill comes down the track and drives a flighted ball to long-off for a single. Kohli takes a single to mid-wicket off the last ball.

IND 130/2 in 41 overs : Jamieson to Kohli, no run. Jamieson not resorting to the short ball ploy vs Kohli - keeping it around the channel outside off, try and get him to nick one to the lone slip fielder. Kohli flicks one off his pads through square leg for a single. Jamieson goes round the wicket again for Gill - short at the body and Gill pulls it fine for a single. Dot to finish.

IND 128/2 in 40 overs : Patel beats Kohli in flight - big turn and bounce for the left-arm spinner. Three dots later, Patel bowls one short and wide, Kohli cuts and  a misfield by Mitchell allows Kohli to get off strike. Just one from the over. India's lead is now 391.

IND 127/2 in 39 overs : Jamieson replaces Southee. Kohli on strike. Starts with a leg side half volley but Kohli fails to make the most of it. Another one. Goes short this time and Kohli defends it to the off-side. Kohli whips the next ball through midwicket for one. Gill goes leg side and swats one straight of mid-off... long chase for Latham but the ball wins. Four runs.

IND 122/2 in 38 overs : Patel. Gill on strike with two slips and a short leg. Gets a single and Kohli is back on strike. He cuts square on off side for a single. Couple of dots to finish.

IND 120/2 in 37 overs :Here's Southee again. Gill goes away on the leg side and plays the pull shot for four. Southee continuing his line of attack against Gill, who goes down leg side again looking to play the pull shot. Gill gets a single to fine leg. With Kohli on strike, Southee switches to over the wicket and a more conventional line - length ball on off, defended. Dot to finish.

IND 115/2 in 36 overs : Patel strikes, again! He snaps up his 12th wicket in the match as Pujara's outside edge taken by slip. The third umpire is checking the replays to see if Ross Taylor has taken the catch cleanly. Fingers are underneath the ball. Pujara has to go. Here comes Kohli.

IND 114/1 in 35 overs : Southee to resume after the break. Gill on strike. The field is set for the short ball ploy. Gill, uncomfortably, pulls one down to backward square for a single. Southee's plan vs Pujara is very straightforward - bowl short, cramp him up. Pujara has the answers for now.

- DRINKS -

IND 113/1 in 34 overs :Patel continues. Gill gets a single with a cut shot. Pujara collects a couple next ball, drives it past mid-off. Pujara has been given out lbw! He reviews reluctantly. Great review - the ball is sailing over the stumps. Pujara survives as umpire Nitin Menon has to reverse his decision! India's lead now is a mammoth 376.

IND 110/1 in 33 overs :Tim Southee continues. Pujara on strike. Coming over the wicket now. Just a couple of balls over the wicket. Southee returns to round the wicket to Pujara and bowls one at Pujara's body - not high enough as Pujara works it past fine leg for a single. Same field for Gill, who tries a pull shot but misses. Two short balls to finish the over; Gill takes a single off the last ball and retains strike.

IND 108/1 in 32 overs : Mayank is struggling with the hit he received on the wrist owing to a short ball from Southee. FOUR! Gets to the pitch of the ball and chips it over extra cover for a boundary. OUT! Steps out again but ends up skying it to long off. He looked in distress with that hit on the wrist and was looking to just go after the bowlers. Gill in at No.3. Sharp turn for Ajaz. Pitches on leg on a good length and comes into Pujara with some surprise bounce. Loud LBW appeal against Gill last ball but turned down.

IND 103/0 in 31 overs: Southee continues with a short length round the stumps to Pujara, who fends them off. Goes full on the legs last ball and Pujara clipps it away for a couple at fine leg.

IND 101/0 in 30 overs: Dropped! Mayank dances down the pitch and smashes it straight. Ajaz gets a hand to it but cannot hold down and the umpire is on the ground trying to evade the hit. Ajaz's intervention might have saved the umpire from serious damage.

IND 101/0 in 29 overs: Southee decks it in short and this one gets Mayank on the wrist and he is in pain. The physio is taping him up. Short again and Mayank tucks it behind for a single. Southee continues the barrage of short balls from round the stump and that is clearly the ploy as the surface is offering little in terms of swing.

IND 100/0 in 28 overs: Ajaz continues. Punched off the backfoot by Mayank to long off for a single and that's the hundred partnership. Beaten! Pitched flatter around off stump and it turns away from Pujara's outside edge.

IND 99/0 in 27 overs: Southee comes round the wicket to Pujara and bouncer straight away. Cops one on the elbow next ball but maintains his calm...that would have stung him. Southee continues to bowl into the body and takes one on the back now. Bouncer to end the over and Pujara yanks his head away from the line of the ball.

IND 99/0 in 26 overs: SIX! Mayank steps out to Ajaz and goes inside out over cover and that's the flattest six you'll ever seen. That's also a fifty for him 90 balls. FOUR! Boundary next ball. Pitched up on off and Mayank plants his front foot forward and slices it between point and cover. Four dots follow and that's 10 from the over.

IND 89/0 in 25 overs : Bouncer from Southee and well negotiated by Mayank. LBW appeal and given and Mayank reviews immediately. Thick inside edge on Ultraedge and Mayank survives. That was a good ball nevertheless. Good length on off stump and it skidded into him. Short pitched and pulled away by Mayank to fine leg and a great save from Mitchell keeps it to 3.

IND 86/0 in 24 overs: FOUR! Pujara is leading the charge today. Short and Pujara rocks back and pulls it to the mid wicket boundary again. That's the third boundary for him today. He is looking confident today as he steps out to defend the rest of the over.

IND 82/0 in 23 overs: Movement for Southee first ball. Pitches on off stump and Mayank hangs his bat in the channel to find the outside edge that falls short of slip. FOUR! Errs in the line and strays down the leg and Mayank whips it behind to the boundary.

IND 78/0 in 22 overs: Pitched up to Mayank and he drives uppish to cover. Digs out a single to long off and that's the first run of the day. Short one outside off to Pujara and he punches to cover off his backfoot. FOUR! Pujara steps out and takes it as a half-volley to guide it to the mid wicket boundary. FOUR! Down the track again and takes it on the full this time to find the mid wicket boundary.

Mayank and Pujara make their way to the middle to resume proceedings. Ajaz will bowl the first over.

LIVE action from Day 3 of the 2nd Test begins at 9:30 AM IST. Stay tuned!

DAY 2 RECAP

The Kiwis' paltry score was in response to India's 325 in the first innings that was highlighted by Ajaz's historic returns of 10 for 119 and Mayank's scintillating 150 - his third score of 150 or more in Test cricket.
