Ranji Round 2 Day 2: Jadeja spins Saurashtra to victory

The Saurashtra all-rounder, who took six wickets in the first innings, took seven in the second essay on a spin-friendly track. He had good support from Kamlesh Makwana, who picked up three wickets.

Saurashtra defeated Jharkhand by eight wickets on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Group C match at the Madhavrao Scindia cricket ground in Rajkot on Friday. The hosts clinched six points with this victory over Jharkhand, who were bowled out for 168 and 122 in the first and second innings respectively.

Saurashtra all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who took six wickets in the first innings, took seven in the second essay on a spin-friendly track. He had good support from Kamlesh Makwana, who picked up three wickets.

Saurashtra, who had taken a lead of 37 runs in their first innings after being bowled out for 205, needed 85 runs to win the game. The hosts achieved the target by losing just two wickets. Avi Barot was dismissed for eight while Sagar Jogiyani got out on 46. Cheteshwar Pujara (23) and Chirag Jani (8) remained unbeaten as they saw their team home.

In the first game, Saurashtra had defeated Tripura by an innings and 118 runs to bag a bonus point. Jadeja has now picked up 24 wickets in just two games in this Ranji Trophy season.

Kousik, Rangarajan shine for Tamil Nadu

J. Kousik and Malolan Rangarajan scored maiden first-class tons as Tamil Nadu ended the second day of their Group B Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore at 571 for seven. Resuming at their overnight score of 225 for five, the visiting side lost Prasanna (70) in the 17th{+ }over of the day.

Kousik and Rangarajan then put on 196 runs for the seventh wicket. The 20-year-old Kousik, playing his second first-class match, scored 151 off 272 balls, hitting 17 boundaries and two sixes. Rangarajan remained unbeaten on 124.

Ishant picks six

A fiery spell from Ishant Sharma halted Vidarbha’s innings two short of the 300-run mark. Resuming at 222 for six, at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Vidarbha lost Jitesh Sharma, trapped in front of the wicket by Ishant in the fifth over the day. The lanky fast bowler picked two more to end with figures of six for 36. At the end of the day’s play, Delhi were trailing by 166 runs with eight wickets in hand. Skipper Gautam Gambhir and Nitish Rana’s unbroken 107-run stand helped the home team recover from a pedestrian start.

In Guwahati: Rajasthan 186 in 83.4 overs (Vineet Saxena 42, Krishna Das five for 32) vs Assam 212 for four in 78 overs (Gokul Sharma 46, K. B. Arun Karthick 60 batting).

In Indore: Tamil Nadu 517 for seven in 180 overs (B. Aparajith 56, B. Indrajith 47, R. Prasanna 70, J. Kousik 151, Malolan Rangarajan 124 batting) vs Madhya Pradesh.

In Mumbai: Punjab 154 vs Mumbai 495 for six in 112 overs (Shreyas Iyer 200, Suryakumar Yadav 78, Aditya Tare 111 batting).

In Vizianagaram: Gujarat 308 in 100.3 overs (Parthiv Patel 122) vs Andhra 196 for one in 53 overs (K. S. Bharat 119 batting, Kaif 44 batting).

In Vadodara: Railways 166 vs Baroda 447 for six in 130 overs (Kedar Devdhar 88, Aditya Waghmode 87, Deepak Hooda 122, Yusuf Pathan 62, Hardik Pandya 41 batting, Anureet Singh four for 80).

In Hyderabad: Kerala 401 in 160.2 overs (V. A. Jagadeesh 42, Rohan Prem 208, Raiphi Gomez 41, Akash Bhandari five for 72) vs Hyderabad 40 for one in 19 overs.
