The Netherlands football team couldn’t turn a head with the World Cup qualifiers, but the stakes are high on the cricket team now. Ryan ten Doeschate — who last played for Netherlands in the ICC World Cup in 2011 — is returning to the squad for the last two games of the ICC World Cricket League (WCL).
The rubbers, against Namibia, will be held in Dubai on December 6 and 8, as announced by Cricket Netherlands on Tuesday.
The all-rounder is remembered for scoring two hundreds in that World Cup, alongside Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers.
However, cricket comebacks aren’t uncommon and Indian players like Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra have proved their worth in the recent past. Even England batsman James Vince is up for a second innings with his national squad in the upcoming Ashes.
Essex helped Doeschate stay connected to cricket. The 37-year-old has been one of its mainstays in the County Championship.
He also played in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Currently sitting on top of the WCL table with 18 points, Netherlands is already in the World Cup qualifiers.
Netherlands squad: Peter Borren (c), Wesley Barresi, Ben Cooper, Ryan ten Doeschate, Paul van Meekeren, Stephan Myburgh, Max O'Dowd, Scott Edwards, Sikander Zulfiqar, Roelof van der Merwe, Shane Snater, Pieter Seelaar, Timm van der Gugten, Fred Klaassen, Viv Kingma
