India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was on Monday appointed the captain of Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming edition of the IPL. Ashwin, who was snapped up for a whopping Rs. 7.6 Crore at the 2018 auction last month, has 100 wickets from 111 games at an economy rate of 6.55.
The 31-year-old made a name as a bowler with the Chennai Super Kings, spearheading its spin department since 2008 before a two-year suspension for the Yellow Brigade, saw him ply his trade for Rising Pune Supergiant (2016-17). However, the wily spinner missed last year's IPL due to injury.

“I feel honoured to be trusted with the responsibility of leading such a talented bunch of cricketers,” Ashwin said about his appointment before adding, “I am confident of bringing out the best out of team-mates. This is indeed a proud moment for me.”
