The Indian team management has advised the cricketers to be careful about their workload in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that starts from March 23.
The players have been advised to follow the training routines of the national side, keeping in mind the World Cup that begins in England from May 30.
Indian team physio, Patrick Farhart, is set to monitor the players’ workload on a regular basis and he will be coordinating with the physios of the eight franchises.
On Friday, Farhart interacted with all the physios via Skype and discussed the general plan for the season. Some of the franchise physios, however, told Sportstar that nothing particularly was told to them about the ‘workload management’.

“Every year before the IPL, the physios usually have a meeting where they discuss about the overall plan for the season, the guidelines and anti-doping policies. This meeting also conveyed similar things. There was nothing in particular about the workload management,” one of the Board officials said.
But it is understood that as a routine, Farhart will keep a track on the fitness levels of players. “With the World Cup nearing, it is extremely important for the players to stay fit and ensure that they don’t pick up injuries. They need to balance out things even on the non-match days. That’s very important,” one of the officials said.
A few days ago, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief, Vinod Rai, had stated that the Board is keeping a watch on the matter and will speak to the franchises at the right time. He also insisted that a ‘team is keeping a track of this’.

After the ODI series against Australia, India captain Virat Kohli had asked the players to ‘enjoy’ the two-month stint in the IPL and also insisted that they should immediately inform Farhart in case he is needed. “We’ve given the responsibility to the player to be smart and to inform the management of the franchise and be in touch with Patrick [Farhart], our physio,” he had said.
“With the World Cup approaching, we will have to be careful. All the franchises follow a particular pattern and has set training rules and this time too, we hope to maintain that,” one of the franchise officials said, adding that they will only react further if and when there is a missive from the BCCI.
