Kings XI is one of the few teams going into the tournament without an experienced foreign fast bowler but Mohit felt that this is an opportunity for the other young bowlers to show their worth.

Mohit Sharma has been one of the finds of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He burst onto the scene with a stellar performance in the 2013 IPL season, and made an equally smooth transition into the Indian team, giving a man of the match performance on his debut. He was part of the T20 World Cup team in 2016, but has since been dropped owing to an injury.

“It affects your mindset and the rehab period can be a bit frustrating and boring as at that time you can’t focus on your bowling. But I certainly feel fitter now as a result of the work I put in, and can hopefully put up a good show in the upcoming IPL,” said Mohit, on the sidelines of the tournament.

The Kings XI Punjab pacer added that he isn’t thinking about comeback, “I am not thinking that far ahead. I want to just perform for the team, and hopefully we progress further in the tournament. My main focus is on getting the process right, and not focusing on the results. I will give my 100% and then let’s see how it goes.”

Kings XI is one of the few teams going into the tournament without an experienced foreign fast bowler but Mohit felt that this is an opportunity for the other young bowlers to show their worth, “Ishant is there, his experience will surely help the boys who now have a chance to show that they can handle pressure.”

Mohit himself will be a contender to lead the bowling line-up, but he doesn’t feel any pressure, “I don’t see extra responsibility as extra pressure, it gives me confidence that the management has faith in my abilities and I enjoy taking such roles.”

The team, which put up a disappointing show in the last IPL, has handed over the reins to Virender Sehwag this season, and with Glenn Maxwell as captain, the team will certainly be entertaining to watch. Speaking to Sportstar, Mohit said Sehwag has asked the team to be more expressive. “He has asked us to open up more and be expressive on and off the field. He talks to each player individually and gives us our space also, this has given us confidence,” concluded Mohit.
