The run-up blends with action in a rather seamless manner for this seamer.

While K. Vignesh’s methods are smooth, it’s often a rough ride for the batsmen facing him.

The 24-year-old Tamil Nadu paceman’s 69 first class wickets in 17 matches at 21.71 reflect his incisive ways.

The National selectors have taken note. Vignesh has been included in the Board President’s XI for the two-day game against the West Indies in Vadodara on September 29 and 30.

“It’s a happy piece of news and a wonderful opportunity for me,” said Vignesh to Sportstar here on Friday.

He’s been making an impact. Vignesh’s five-wicket innings haul for India Green against India Blue in a Duleep Trophy match this season at Dindigul was a creditable display with the pink sphere. His burst with the second new ball was destructive.

As part of the MRF Pace Foundation’s MOU with Cricket Australia, Vignesh travelled down under with Basil Thampi to the Australian Cricket Academy in Brisbane.

He said, “It was a valuable experience and we worked on several aspects. We were under Ryan Harris [former Australia paceman] and Troy Cooley (former England and Australia bowling coach).”

When Vignesh returned, he found himself bowling quicker. “I turned out for Lyca Kovai Kings in TNPL and watching me, Bala Bhai (Tamil Nadu bowling coach L. Balaji) said I was bowling faster. I am now consistently moving the ball at around 135 kmph.”

An attacking bowler, Vignesh pitches the ball up and swings it away from the right-hander from a semi side-on release. And he can also get his deliveries to seam into the batsman. “The outswinger is my stock ball and the nip-backer is a handy delivery.”

This seamer could be set for bigger things.
