Liverpool get eliminated from the Champions League with a 6-2 loss to Real Madrid across two legs.
The last minute of regulaiton time and the smile on Klopp’s face at the beginning of the game has disappeared. The deficit now stands at 6-2 with the runner of in the previous edition of the tournament returning home empty handed after yet another loss to Real Madrid.
Liverpool gets a corner kick in the last moments of regulation time. Trent Alexander-Arnold takes it but shoots it out of play at the other end of the field for a Real Madrid goal kick. Strange chain of events this for the Premier League side.
Benzema scores for Real Madrid. Camavinga’s ball, received by Benzema is stolen by Van Dijk but the ball fals for Vinicius, whose shot first saved, is hit into the net by Benzema.

Liverpool tries to create an attack from the midfield and Fabinho tries a through ball for Salah, who was running in from the right. However, the former Monaco man overhits the ball as it goes out of play for a goal-kick.
Valverde makes a run behind the defence but Alisson is there to curb his attempts. Salah, on the other end, tries a pass for Nunez, which is interceted by Madrid in the penalty box and eventually cleared.
Madrid attacks against the run of play with Vinicius carrying the ball along the left flank, beats his marker, Konate and crosses for Benzema in the centre. However, Van Dijk intercepts on time to deny a goal
Real Madrid gets into action this time with a long ball for Vinicius, received by him easily. He passes to Benzema as the ball moves from one feet to other. Modric finally gets it, tries to barge into the box but runs into a red wall to lose the ball finally.
Liverpool tries to attack with Alexander-Arnold crossing in a ball which is headed to the centre by Gakpo for Konate, but Real Madrid get to the ball eventually to nip that attack in the bud.
Another 45 minutes for Liverpool to do the unlikely and overturn th three-goal deficit.
Goalkeepers at both ends ensure the first half ends goalless as Real Madrid remains 5-2 ahead against Liverpool on aggregate in this Champions League fixture.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side enjoys possession with small passes and starts an attack with sow build-up. Valverde gets the ball in the final third, tries to keep it with him as Konate tries to get it off. Valverde moves his hand and fouls the LFC defender in the process to end that development.
Salah goes looking for the ball and fould Nacho in the process. The Real Madrid defender slows the game doown, tying his shoe amid boos from away fans and match resumes eventually with a quick free-kick.
Gakpo gets the ball in the Real Madrid penalty box and he strikes on target, forcing Courtois to make another reflex save.
Nunez cuts in from the left and shoots a curler forcing a save by Thibaut Courtois. Action at the other end sees Real attack on the counter and Vinicus carries the ball in the final third and shoots on target and Alisson makes a save this time.
Valverde tries to start an attack along the right flank but Milner comes running in to steal the ball off the RM player. The linesman raises the flag for a Real Madrid offside but Milner continues to prove why he is so dangerous in a pressing style of play.
The two players combine again as Alexander-Arnold delivers a cross for the Dutchman who just misses to get his head on the ball. The ball goes out of play for another goal-kick.
Liverpool decided to go with through balls into the final third and Alexander-Arnold delivers one for Gakpo but it was over shot as Madrid gets a goal-kick.

Camavinga tries a phenomenal strike from outside the box and a full-stretched save by Alisson sees the ball come off the bar. What a game the Liverpool keeper is having so far!
Another chance for the home team. Real’s corner is headed on target by Vinicius, who was left completely unmarked. However, Alisson makes a good save to keep the contest 0-0 tonight.
Another counter attack by Real Madrid. Another combination of Vinicius and Benzema as the former passes to the Frenchman who loses control of the ball and Liverpool gets the ball back.
Toni Kroos decides to try and score from distance. He gets the ball in the middle of the park and shoots with his second touch on target. But Alisson makes a regulation save.
Benzema starts an attack against the run of play, he passes it to Vinicius who tries to cross it back to the Frenchman but fails as Ancelotti’s side misses another chance to widen its three-goal lead.
Rudiger misjudges a long ball for him at the back and Salah rushes to it, beats the German and passes it to Nunez who shoots forcing a save by Thibaut Courtois.
Vinicius tries to build an attack along the flanks. He plays a pass to Modric, who passes ot to Carvajal on his left, but Liverpool gets back possession of the ball to deny an early chance.
Real Madrid tries an attack with Modric threading a through ball for Benzema, whose shot is blocked by Alisson. However, the linesman rasies the flag second later.

Real Madrid got used to pulling off dramatic comebacks in the Champions League last season. Now it needs to avoid one to keep its title defence going.
It will be Liverpool needing to do something magical at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Wednesday to reverse a 5-2 loss from the first leg in the round of 16.
It definitely won’t be easy — no away team has ever erased a three-goal loss from the first leg in the Champions League. Only five times the team that lost at home rallied in the second leg, with Manchester United the only one to overcome a two-goal deficit in a round-of-16 matchup against Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
Liverpool did manage a huge comeback at home in the 2019 semifinals, rallying against another Spanish club, Barcelona. It had lost 3-0 at the Camp Nou before pulling off a 4-0 win in the second leg at home to keep alive a run that eventually ended with the team winning the trophy. Only three other teams overcame a deficit of three or more goals — Barcelona, Roma and Deportivo La Coruña.
“We need to go and do something special,” Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold said. “It’s about throwing the kitchen sink at it and going all out.”
Madrid, which beat Liverpool in last season’s final for a record-extending 14th European title, pulled off thrilling comebacks on its way to that final, rallying from behind against PSG in the round of 16, Chelsea in the quarterfinals and Manchester City in the semifinals.
Madrid also rallied against Liverpool in the first leg this season after going down 2-0 in the first half in England, eventually building its comfortable three-goal advantage with two goals each by Vinícius Júnior and Karim Benzema. Éder Militão also scored for Madrid at Anfield.
Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expected an open second leg and said his team will not play too defensively.
“The message to the team is simple,” Ancelotti said Tuesday. “We have to try to play as well as possible, just like in the first leg. We won’t try to speculate, we have to be in the game from the first minute. We have to go into the game with maximum intensity and enthusiasm and try to win it.”
The only time Madrid failed to advance in the Champions League after winning the first leg on the road was in 2019 when it was eliminated by Ajax in the round of 16.
Madrid has won six of its last seven matches against Liverpool in the Champions League, drawing the other one.
The team ended a three-match winless run with a 3-1 victory over Espanyol at the Bernabéu in the Spanish league on Saturday. The coach is expected to have Ferland Mendy and Benzema available after recovering from injuries.
Liverpool took another hit to its confidence with a 1-0 loss at relegation-threatened Bournemouth over the weekend, hurting its chances of moving closer to the top four in the Premier League. Mohamed Salah missed a penalty in that game.
