Boxing Day has provided us with some of the most entertaining action in the English Premier League, here is a look at five of the most entertaining boxing day matches in the League.
Chelsea 4-4 Aston Villa
This game had quite literally everything in it, 8 goals, 3 Red cards and 2 penalties.
Villa took a two-goal lead before Andriy Shevchenko struck twice to bring Chelsea back – which included a penalty and a red card was show to Zat Knight. Alex gave Chelsea the lead, but Martin Laursen equalised for Villa after Ricardo Carvalho was sent off and the score was 3-3.
A late Michael Ballack free-kick seemed to seal the deal for Blues, but Gareth Barry equalised from the penalty spot in added time – Ashley Cole was sent off for handling the ball on the goal line - and game ended 4-4.
Manchester United 4-3 Newcastle United
Manchester United was trailing thrice in this game, but came back to equalise each time before stealing the points in what was a perfect description of ‘Fergie Time.’
James Perch gave Newcastle the lead before Jonny Evans equalised, then Jonny Evans scored one in his own net as Newcastle led 2-1. Patrice Evra then equalised again for United but Pappis Cisse again gave Magpies the lead. However, Robin Van Persie immediately equalised for United. The game seemed to be heading to a 3-3 draw before Javier Hernandez got at the end of a Michael Carrick cross to steal three points for United.
Sheffield Wednesday 3-3 Manchester United
Sheffield Wednesday rushed to a 3-0 lead with goals from Davild Hlrst, Mark Bright and John Sherldan. But Bryan Mclair got a brace before Eric Cantona equalised to give United an important point in its League winning season.
Arsenal 6-1 Leicester City
Arsenal thrashed Leicester City 6-1 back in 2000, Thierry Henry scored a hat-trick and Patrick Viera, Freddy Ljunberg, Tony Adams each got one.
Coventry City 3-2 Arsenal
One year prior to the Leicester thrashing, Arsenal was at the end of a defeat to a decent Coventry City side. Garry Mcallister and Mustapha Hadji put Coventry 2-0 up before Ljunberg bought Arsenal back. But it was a 19-year-old Robbie Kean who scored the decisive goal for the Sky Blues. Davor Suker got a late consolation for the Arsenal team.
