India’s U-16 football team registered a 2-1 victory over Hercules U-16 in a practice match in their ongoing exposure tour in Alicante, Spain.
Down by a goal at the interval, Nicolai Adam’s boys showed exemplary character and sublime fitness levels to take home the win. The rivals were reduced to ten men in the 58th minute after their striker was given the marching orders for a double booking.
The Indian boys had earlier been on a six-week exposure tour to Germany and then played the 2016 AFC U-16 Championship qualifiers in Tabriz City, Iran. The tournament is slated to be held in India from September 15 to October 2 next year.
Amarjit slotted home substitute Aniket’s centre in the 57th minute to restore parity after Hercules had surged ahead in the 34th minute. The opposition failed to double their lead early in the second half, when their striker blasted a penalty wide. This proved to be a costly mistake as Amarjit converted from the spot in the 82nd minute, after he was fouled inside the box, to seal the victory.
India next play Villarreal U-16 on September 29 at 10.30 PM (IST).
