Chennai City has a tough task ahead as it gears up to take on Aizawl FC on Saturday.

So far, this has been a season to remember for Aizawl FC. Having remained unbeaten at home, it has mustered twenty points from ten matches. So, when it takes on Chennai City FC here on Saturday, it is going to be a game of stark contrasts. At least on paper.

The Aizawl side looks the better team compared to the visitor, who has earned mere eight points playing the same number of matches.

However, Aizawl FC was beaten 0-2 by the same opponent, when it travelled to the Tamil Nadu capital, courtesy goals by Marcos Vinicius and Charles de Souza. Aizawl FC, however, will be attempting to overturn the result in front of their fans.

Chennai FC head coach V Soundararajan sounded pretty confident ahead of Saturday’s game, “All my players are fit, but we might face certain difficulties because of the artificial turf.” The boys from Chennai will have to adjust as best as they can to garner a positive result.

Sitting at the ninth position with just Churchill Brothers below them, he maintained, “There are still several matches to be played, we will try our best in those matches to be safe and to end the season with a good result.”

Chennai City FC midfielder Lalnun Mawia also spoke of his excitement to be playing in his home state, “I am very thrilled to be playing here in Aizawl because the turnout is always huge for the Hero I-League matches.”

Reflecting on the defeat at Chennai, Aizawl FC coach Khalid Jamil stated, “ This match is an important one. We are playing a team who defeated us at their home pitch. We have to try to do the same thing to them,” he said, adding: “We have to give our best, if we do that, everything will be okay.”

Aizawl FC will have to play without their key player Lalruatthara, who is out due to an injury. R. Laldanmawia is likely to be seen on the pitch after having scored the winner against East Bengal in their last home match.
