Jeje wins AIFF player of year award

Guiding Aizawl FC to it’s first-ever I-League title win, Khalid Jamil was awarded the Syed Abdul Rahim Award for Best Coach in the I-League in the first-ever AIFF Awards in Mumbai on Thursday.

While Jamil was rewarded for his hard work, Jeje Lalpekhlua, India national team striker who scored India’s second goal in the recently played international friendly against Nepal, adjudged the 2016 AIFF Player of the Year.

Sunil Chhetri was adjudged the Hero of the I-League. Aizawl FC’s Alfred Kemah Jaryan won the award for the best mid-fielder. Sasmita Malik, adjudged the 2016 AIFF Women’s player of the year.

The programme was attended by Praful Patel, President, AIFF, Kushal Das, Subrata Dutta, and coach Stephen Constantine. “This is a defining year for Indian football as we prepare to host the FIFA U-17 World Cup in less than 100 days. I am confident that with the guidance and support of the Union Government through the Ministry of Sports, we believe we will be able to host the best FIFA U-17 World Cup ever,” Patel said.

Meanwhile, the AIFF inducted former India international Abhishek Yadav in its executive committee as per the requirements of the newly amended constitution, while Anjali Shah was nominated as the second woman member of the highest decision-making body.

Jarnail Singh Award for Best Defender: Anas Edathodika (Mohun Bagan).

Best Midfielder: Alfred Kemah Jaryan (Aizawl FC).

Best Striker: Aser Pierric Dipanda Dicka (Shillong Lajong FC).

Highest Scorer: Aser Pierric Dipanda Dicka (Shillong Lajong FC).

Syed Abdul Rahim Award for Best Coach: Khalid Jamil (Aizawl FC).

I-League Hero: Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC).

Best Home-match Organiser: DSK Shivajians and Bengaluru FC.
