I-League: Mohammedan beats TRAU to consolidate top spot; Gokulam draws with Rajasthan

Mohammedan Sporting came back from being a goal down to beat Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) 2-1 in an exciting eighth round match of the I-League at the Naihati Stadium on Tuesday. Fernando Gomes put TRAU ahead in the 34th minute from a free-kick before Faisal Ali found the equaliser for Mohammedan Sporting in the first half of injury-time. 

Marcus Joseph struck the winner in the 70th minute to seal the full quota of points for Sporting, which consolidated its position on top of the standings with 19 points from eight matches.

Earlier, Ronald Singh played the role of a super-sub perfectly as he struck in the final minute of regulation time to help defending champion Gokulam Kerala FC hold 10-man Rajasthan United FC to a 1-1 draw at Kalyani Stadium.

Rajasthan United took the lead midway through the opening half through a penalty which was converted by Sardor Jakhonov. Just when it looked that everything was over for the holder, Ronald Singh finished a nice assist from Luka Majcen in the final minute to salvage a point for his team. 

Rajasthan United was reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute when forward Julian Omar Ramos was marched off with a red card.

In another match of the same round played at Naihati Stadium, Real Kashmir FC and Sudeva Delhi FC played out an exciting 2 – 2 draw. Real Kashmir established a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to a brace from Tiago Adan. But Sudeva Delhi mounted a spirited fightback after the break and scored twice to snatch a point.

The results:

(At Naihati) – TRAU FC 1 (Fernando Gomes 34) lost to Mohammedan Sporting 2 (Faisal Ali 45+1, Marcus Joseph 70).

(At Kalyani) - Gokulam Kerala FC 1 (Ronald Singh 90) drew with Rajasthan United FC 1 (Jakhonov 27-pen).

(At Naihati) - Real Kashmir FC 2 (Tiago Adan 2, 39) drew with Sudeva Delhi FC 2 (V.G. Sreyas 51, S. Lotjem 90+1).
