A New Year but it was more of the same at the Tournament of Champions after world number one Jordan Spieth cruised to an eight-stroke win.

Spieth set all kinds of records in 2015 as he won The Masters and U.S. Open as well as the FedEx Cup, Tour Championship, John Deere Classic and Valspar Championship to reach the summit of men's golf.

And the 22-year-old continued where he left off at the PGA Tour tournament in Hawaii on Sunday, after carding a final-round 67 to finish at 30 under, only the second times it has been done in a 72-hole event.

Spieth holed seven birdies, including his final hole at the 18th, to clinch his seventh Tour title, matching Tiger Woods' record for the second most trophies won before the age of 23.

Defending champion and fellow American Patrick Reed (69) finished outright second following four consecutive rounds in the 60s.

Reed, who led the way after the first round, had five birdies and a bogey to close out proceedings.

A stroke further back was Brandt Snedeker (67) and Brooks Koepka (71) at 21 under.

World number six Rickie Fowler rounded out the top five, nine shots adrift after posting a six-under-par 67.

Irishman Padraig Harrington (67), Argentinean Fabian Gomez (71) and Peter Malnati (69) finished 17 under.

Kevin Kisner (71) was ninth and a stroke behind; while world number two Jason Day (65), Bubba Watson (67), Dustin Johnson (69), Steven Bowditch (72) and Jimmy Walker (72) were 15 under the card at the end of play.
