Britain's Jenson Button is to make his Super GT debut for Team Mugen at the Suzuka 1000km on August 27, the team announced on Friday.

Button, who will do testing on the Suzuka circuit on June 6-7, retired from Formula One at the end of last season, although he stepped in to replace Fernando Alonso for McLaren-Honda at the Monaco Grand Prix.

"After driving an NSX Concept-GT at Honda Racing Thanks Day last December, I became interested in racing in Super GT," said Button, the 2009 Formula One champion. "I spoke with Honda and they have given me the chance to race at the Suzuka 1000km.

"As an F1 driver and a member of Team Mugen, I will push to win. I am very much looking forward to racing in front of my Japanese fans again."

Button will be partnered in the GT500 car by regular Mugen drivers Hideki Mutoh and Daisuke Nakajima.
