Mick Schumacher to race in Chennai

The MRF Challenge is a centrally-run series with all cars based at the motorsport premises of MRF in Coimbatore. It features cars powered by two-litre Renault engines housed in a Dallara 'Formulino' chassis.

Mick Schumacher is expected to participate in the MRF challenge finale at the Madras Motor Race Track in Irungattukottai near Chennai on January 30 and 31.

The 16-year old German, son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, finished 10th in last season's German Formula 4 Championship.

The junior Schumacher has been competing in the German Formula 4 championships in 2015, his first season in formula cars, where he scored a win and two podiums to finish 10th in the championship.

Recently, the 16-year old has been linked with both German giant Mercedes and his father’s former team Ferrari for a place their respective young-driver programme.

The line-up also features Pietro Fittipaldi, grandson of two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi – who is leading the standings after three rounds held in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Dubai.

Giuliano Alesi, son of former Ferrari racer Jean Alesi will also feature at the season finale.

Harrison Newey, son of master F1 designer Adrian Newey will also be in the fray, while the Indian contingent will include Tarun Reddy, Arjun Narendran and Karthik Tharani.
