Dipika Pallikal exits US Open with quarter-final loss

The World No. 19 lost to Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy, the World No. 6, in five sets 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 2-11, 11-3.

India’s Dipika Pallikal, the World No. 19, had her credible campaign at the US Open ended with a loss in the quarter-final to Egypt’s Omneya Abdel Kawy, the World No. 6, in a 55-minute contest that went five sets. Pallikal won the first and the fourth sets, losing 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 2-11, 11-3.

Kawy, who had eliminated another top-seeded Indian, Joshna Chinappa, in the tournament, will face England’s Laura Massaro in the semi-final.

Dipika had reached the quarter-finals with a five-set win against fourth seeded Alison Waters.
