Top seed Pankaj Advani made short work of Madhya Pardesh's Ketan Chawla with three century breaks to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the billiards competition of the Manisha National Billiards and Snooker Championship at the PYC Gymkhana here on Sunday.

The five-time senior national billiards champion won 3-0 in the match set to five games and 150 points. Advani, who had last won the national billiards title in 2012, was in superb touch cracking breaks of 141, 151 and 147 as he raced to a comfortable win against Chawla who managed to collect 78 points in the third game. Advani will take on Andhra Pradesh’s S. Sankar Rao in the pre-quarterfinals.

Another top player, PSPB’s Devendra Joshi, dropped the first game against West Bengal’s Shyam Jagtiani, but bounced back with three century breaks of 134, 104 and 137 to stay in the fray. Joshi will run into Sourav Kothari in the pre-quarterfinals.

Last year’s winner Kothari had a close shave against Alok Kumar who missed an opportunity to win the third game and take a 2-1 lead.
