India’s campaign at the South Asian Aquatic Championships got off to a flying start as the contingent claimed 32 gold, 23 silver and five bronze medals at the Ugathadasa Indoor Swimming Pool, Colombo, in Sri Lanka, on Wednesday, the opening day of the event.
The day saw Under-15 and 18-year-old boys and girls participate in the swimming championships and India claimed 60 medals from 33 events.
In water-polo, India scored a 10-8 victory over Sri Lanka to lead 1-0 in the first of the fiver-match series. For India, Karthick Chandra scored thrice, while Sibin Varghese and Prakash S. scored twice. Sarang Vaidya, Shivam Gadge, and Bhogesh Kulte scored one goal each.
