Paytm has extended its association as the title sponsor for international and domestic cricket matches in India by agreeing to shell out a whopping Rs. 326.80 crore for the four-year cycle commencing October 2019. The BCCI announced after the bid documents were opened at its headquarter on Wednesday.
The mobile payment and financial services platform had replaced Micromax with a bid of Rs. 2.42 crore per match in October 2015. When the BCCI opened the bid documents for the next cycle - October 2019 to September 2023 - the parent company of Paytm (One 97 Communications Pvt. Ltd.) walked away with the winning bid at Rs. 3.80 crores per match.
With India’s men set to host at least 86 international matches in bilateral series over the next four years, the BCCI was thrilled with the 57 per cent hike in the sponsorship amount. “Paytm is one of the new generation companies of India and we at the BCCI are proud of Paytm continuing its long-standing commitment with Indian cricket,” stated BCCI chief executive Rahul Johri.
Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the founder and chief executive of Paytm, said, “We are excited to continue our long-term association with BCCI and the Indian Cricket Team. Our commitment to Indian Cricket gets stronger with every season. India loves cricket and we at Paytm are the biggest fans of it.”
Paytm will thus continue to be the title sponsor for all the major cricket tournaments in the country. While the men’s international cricket in India is the drawing card for the market, the BCCI offers an extension of the sponsorship rights for domestic cricket and women’s international games at no additional cost.
