A disciplined bowling display and some early fireworks from Sam Billings set up a six-wicket win for Sydney Sixers over Perth Scorchers on Tuesday. The Sixers had made an inconsistent start to this season's Big Bash League, following up a thumping win over Sydney Thunder with a heavy defeat at the hands of Hobart Hurricanes.

However, Moises Henriques' side were able to get back on track at the Sydney Cricket Ground as they limited the Scorchers to a modest total of 130-8. Billings, promoted to open in place of the injured Jason Roy, raced to 40 from 30 deliveries in reply to put the Sixers firmly on course in their run-chase.

And a home victory was completed with 12 balls to spare, Henriques (24), Jordan Silk (28) and Johan Botha (30 not out) all chipping in with handy contributions. Sam Whiteman (28 off 16 balls) briefly fired for the Scorchers, but his dismissal triggered a collapse that saw six wickets fall for 38 as Mitchell Marsh (31 not out) was limited to just two boundaries.

In contrast, Billings thumped seven fours — including three in succession off England team-mate David Willey — to set up a routine win against a visiting side missing the rested Mitchell Johnson.

TYE DON'T BELIEVE IT

Perth's defeat was tough on Andrew Tye, who enhanced his reputation as one of the BBL's most skilful bowlers on his way to impressive figures of 3-15 from four overs. Tye accounted for Brad Haddin, Henriques and Silk, but was undermined by a lack of support as the Sixers eased home.
