Shikhar Dhawan's brilliant unbeaten 97 that fetched Delhi Capitals a convincing seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Eden Gardens here on Friday underlined the faith reposed in him by the DC think-tank.

Former India skipper and DC advisor Sourav Ganguly said knowing Dhawan's capability, his team was keen to hire him. "Probably he is one of the best opening batsmen in the world. We were desperate for Shikhar when we heard that he's going to leave Sunrisers Hyderabad. (It is) good that he is coming off," said Ganguly.
"It was more like a Shikhar Dhawan innings, once he gets set, he takes the game away. He was a class act...It is an important phase of the tournament. It's good to see Shikhar get a good score with the tournament entering the second phase," he added.

Two days prior to the selection of the Indian side for the World Cup, Ganguly said he expected Dhawan to carry on his form and shine in England. "World Cup is a different format… And Shikhar plays very well in England. He is a fantastic one-day cricketer," he said.
Ganguly also praised the DC bowlers for keeping a tight leash on the KKR batsmen. "The best part of the game was how we bowled in the match. When we took Ishant Sharma, many said that he is a Test bowler, but he has been the best bowler for the last six-odd matches...It’s a great win. Two in two against such a strong team is remarkable," he said.
