Kings XI Punjab's Hashim Amla bowed out of this season's IPL in style.

Whenever Hashim Amla scores a century, Kings XI Punjab go on to lose. So far, this dubious stat checks out. The South African opener scored his second century of this IPL, a breathtaking 104 from 60 balls, but his side was unable to close the game as it lost by six wickets as the Lions chased the target of 190 with relative ease.

Amla's masterclass included eight boundaries and five sixes — the one that got him the century in the last over of the first innings — as he became only the third batsman to score two centuries in a single edition of the IPL; both centuries resulted in defeats.

It isn't Amla's fault that Kings XI lost today as his team-mates scored only 82 (excluding extras) of the remaining 60 balls with the side reaching 189 for three from its 20 overs. That target was made to look smaller as the Punjab fielders dropped three catches that could have changed the complexion of the game.

Kings XI Punjab will now lose both South Africans in Hashim Amla and David Miller as they head off for national duty, and skipper Glenn Maxwell will now have to rally his troops as they chase a play-off spot.
